that the sealed rooms make dust generated from the interior site an occasional issue during the construction phase. To cut down on late design changes or snagging, McAleer &
Rushe built a mock hotel room in the Exhibition Centre car park in August 2010. “The pricing of the furniture was also based on that mock-up,” says McAleer & Rushe project manager, Conor Feeney. “It was also fully mocked up for building services so that M&E operatives and consultants could come down and see the typical riser configuration prior to commencement”. The hotel features five room types, with two suites and a dis-
abled room on each of the accommodation floors. The accom- modation starts on the second floor, which also features the restaurant, with floors three to eight featuring solely bedrooms. “Once fit-out was under way, we offered a room on site where
was there was a bit of tweaking and Starwood could look at that sample, which was signed off in June,” says Feeney. “That was the last opportunity to de-snag but there were no
real changes.” With the unitised façade cladding solution providing the fast-
track element that was needed, McAleer & Rushe are confident that the first Aloft hotel will be opening for the autumn confer- ence season at the Excel Centre.
