UPFRONT Real time data push New family of
A transformation is taking place in the way that we can use current wireless technology to capture event- changing data pushed to us very cheaply and in real time, according to Martin Walder, MD of Global Sense. He says: “We have pioneered the
industrialisation of GPRS for use in virtual networks and in combination with open web databases, to effectively monitor and control assets anywhere in the world. Our non-invasive systems, which are easy to install, save money, save on maintenance and save on energy.” Global Sense calls its system
‘micro-intelligence’ precisely because it senses changes in the state of a component, such as a bearing in an
escalator, and sends this micro data in real time, anywhere in the world, on any platform – including to a mobile phone. “Roy Saunders, chair of Global Sense, says: “Our analytics are incredibly precise and let important decisions be made on the fly, with the surety of reliable information, inexpensively mined and transferred.” The company’s
range of analytical tools (Viewr and Archivr) complement its Controlr. They
focus on the hidden gems of
information, which on the hover of a mouse can alert customers to real and potential issues, even down to light bulb failure.

Micro-Epsilon’s new range of colour recognition sensors are said to provide up to 20 times higher resolution than conventional colour recognition sensors and to offer stable, reliable colour measurements, even on shiny or reflective surfaces. They can recognise small variations in colour along a target object or material, for example, in the production of leather goods, wood veneers and vehicle interiors. The range includes colorSENSOR

vision sensors
Using machine vision sensors for purposes of industrial automation is much like making a movie — complete with lights, camera and action. To achieve excellent production values, satisfy the audience, or customer, and stay within budget, a sensor with a keen eye for detail is necessary. That, according to Banner Engineering Corp. is where its new iVu Plus TG and iVu Plus BCR (Bar Code Reader) enter the scene. Despite more complex technology, Banner's new iVu Plus family remains easy to use with touch- screen, menu-driven tools in nine languages and on the spot help screens. Features such as Ethernet connectivity, multiple inspection storage, and a new Sort algorithm make the Plus models suitable for environments requiring connectivity, rapid product changeover, or sorting
reducing any environmental effects that could adversely affect reliability. More than 2000 different types of fibre optic cable are available to choose from, as well as many lenses. The LT family extends from low-cost sensors to multi-channel colour recognition systems.

off-site depot, the new Hewden depot offers a full range of plant & equipment required by INEOS including compressors, welding products, mobile lighting towers and small diesel generators, all of which is built to meet specifications for use in a petrochemical environment. John Webster, regional director for Hewden said: “We support INEOS in
many large and time sensitive projects at the site, making provision of the latest equipment and round- the-clock services essential. INEOS recently placed an order for 40+ cranes with Hewden. Ranging from 25 to 500t, the cranes will be used for maintenance and TAR operations across the site.

capabilities. All this without the need for a PC for configuration. iVu Plus TG has four algorithm
types: Area, which ensures that some feature, or features, are present on a part; blemish, which finds flaws on a part, such as scratches on a disc; match, which verifies that a pattern, shape or part in any orientation matches a reference pattern; and sort, the newest sensor type, which recognises and sorts different patterns such as nuts, bolts, and washers. The sort function lets users train the sensor to distinguish between up to 10 patterns.
