millions of pounds over the next four years, the opportunity of increasing its financial income from the airport over the period of the Olympic Games was missed. At the time of going to press, Bromley Council was consulting on a revised proposal submitted by the airport.


Children and Family Centre: Another matter which could have an impact on our community rests with the outcome of an ongoing consultation affecting the future of our ‘Children and Families Centre’, based in Sunningvale Avenue. The consultation is about the council’s need to make savings as outlined above and would see families who needed to access the Local Authority’s support services having to travel from Biggin Hill to either Penge or Orpington. Your association will seek to support the retention of the centre, basing its arguments around the level of need and Biggin Hill’s geographic isolation from the centres which are proposed to be retained.


Biggin Hill airport Community Fund: Schemes we are currently considering are the provision of two or three benches along Main Road, where we hope that people will be able to rest meet and talk with friends. Another bench may be placed on the triangle of grass land where Temple Road meets Stockhill, to provide for the ease of those who have made the climb up from the valley. Other suggestions range from a new sign for the Biggin Hill Cemetery where it is accessed from Kingsmead via King George VI Drive, to the possibility of some financial support for the Children and Families Centre if a suggested management board with Charitable Trust status should be established.
