is always work to be done either as an officer or helping physically at shows and meetings. The committee meets one evening each month, but help from those unable to commit to joining the committee is always appreciated.” The society plans to mark its 90th anniversary next year


by producing a calendar featuring photographs of gardens and parks of Biggin Hill. The public, and our members, but no professional photographers, have been invited to enter the competition, to be held at the Summer Flower Show on July 2012, to elect a photograph for each month, and the calendar will be available in the autumn. It is worth noting that our present president, Frank


Butterworth, was born in 1922. Gardening and longevity are clearly connected in Biggin Hill! The society has a website maintained by member Betty Oades, whose design skills are responsible for the attractive posters advertising the group’s activities which are displayed around the village. The website gives details of the committee and has photographs of notable show entries. The Autumn Flower Show is on September 17 and on September 21 there is a talk on Ponds and the Environment. A talk on Gardeners' London on October 19 will end the season. Talks are generally illustrated by slides and there is always an opportunity to ask questions. The AGM in November keeps business to a minimum to
