Airport’s Family Open Day
WHILE many of us were disappointed that there was no air show this year, we are interested to see what the airport will come up with on its first Family Open Day, which takes place on Saturday, September 10. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
is confirmed to appear alongside the Tigers parachute display team and the Flying Gunners motorcyclists. Crowds will be entertained by On the Edge Stunt Show, a Battle of Britain
scramble and history re-enactment by 212 Squadron, as well as Rat Pack-style music from the Swinging Little Big Band. For those too young to remember the
dark days of 1940, the emphasis of the day's proceedings will be on recreating the feel of Biggin Hill in a time from its glorious past, organisers say. The history re- enactment group, 212 Squadron, will portray life as it would have been lived day to day on a front line fighter base, with authentic plotting table, a scramble as
bandits approach and tableau dressed with uniforms and artefacts from the period. The Tigers will open the day with a
parachute jump into the arena and then it will be action all day, with lots to see and do for the whole family. Two charities will benefit from the proceeds of the open day: Westerham’s Valence school and the RAF Benevolent Fund. Tickets can be obtained by calling 0871 220 0260 or by visiting
