The traditional wine bars of Milano meet the urban cool streets of Smithfield in the new bar at Carluccio’s Central East London site. As dusk descends on the restaurant, the deli makes way for a typically Italian Aperitivo Bar, perfect for an after-work catch up over refreshing tipples and Venetian tapas style plates. Choose from the Stuzzichini (small plates) menu and enjoy the traditional tastes of Carluccio’s in a casual manner. From 5pm, snack on olives, before choosing a few plates including Bresaola, £3.50 – thinly sliced cured beef, Caponata, £2.50 – Sicilian aubergine stew with Italian flat bread and Pollo Farcito, £2.75 – slices of stuffed chicken leg. There are no rules, have as much or as little as you fancy and order as you go – perfect for late arriving guests. The exclusively Italian drinks list is packed with regionally sourced wines, traditional beers on tap and by the bottle as well as inventive cocktails. Try the classic Venetian Bellini, which comes in a variety of flavours including peach, passion fruit or cherry for £5.95. Other contemporary concoctions feature a Sanguinello – vodka with sparkling blood orange juice and a Spritz – Campari mixed with dry Prosecco, both £5.45.
