Squash Prepares for the Holidays
S
quash at MAC continues to grow and the fall season is in full swing as MAC members continue to enjoy the amazing refurbishing of four singles courts and one doubles court.
This year the Squash season was jump- started by a kickoff barbecue at the Wilcox Estates Pool. Squash players tried their hand at ‘Speedminton’ and the children enjoyed the pool. A big thank you to our hosts for the barbecue – Andrea Bowen and Kate Slott.
MAC continues to offer squash oppor- tunities for everyone as the sport grows at MAC and nationwide. Our Sunday family clinics from 11 a.m. to noon are attracting new players so more families can learn about, and enjoy, the game of squash. The Junior Squash Team program was a success last year and is again offered during the months of January and February. MAC junior players’ numbers continue to grow and they are playing, and succeeding, in an increasing number of out-of-state tourna-
ments. For example, Atticus Jones won the Hackley School Bronze Tournament in October of this year, and MAC juniors have competed in Tournaments in Seattle and San Diego.
There is a singles round robin open to all players on Thursdays from 5-7 p.m., which is a fun, low-key way to meet other players and develop one’s game. In addition, Assistant Pro Mohsen Mir offers free 20-minute intro-

ductory lessons to players who are new to the sport – it’s a great way to get started. The Women’s introductory clinic continues most Saturday mornings from 9:30-11 a.m. and Mohsen Mir continues his adult beginners clinic. Visit the Squash page at
theMAC.com for details. The box singles league remains active and there is always room to sign up. The doubles league continues to grow and is busy this year as well.

This is always a popular event and is followed by the much-anticipated annual holiday party hosted on Saturday, Dec. 10, which offers great camaraderie and awesome door prizes. Keep an eye out for tournament details either in the Squash lounge in the sub-basement or on the squash website at
theMAC.com. For more information, contact Tournament Chairs Alex Burt and Stephen Shaw at 503-830-9551.
