ecember, with all of its gray and rainy weather – and holiday parties – has arrived. The Thanksgiving turkey is reduced to leftovers and the next major holiday is fast approaching. What is to be done to keep those winter pounds from piling up? Clearly, members need a solu- tion that allows them to eat, drink and be merry, and still fit our clothes. The Cycling Committee has some suggestions. Winter bike riding can be fun. Find a friend to ride with by posting an email to the MAC Yahoo group. Riders can try cyclocross, a combination of running and off-road riding. Portland has more cross riders than anywhere else in the U.S. Since courses are in fields and not on the roads, cyclists are safe from traffic interactions and the lower light levels that this season brings. Spin and Flicks 2012 Want to keep riding but stay out of the


rain? Want company and inspiration while pedaling? Then come to Spin and Flicks in 2012, an opportunity to use a spin bike while watching movies with friends. The first session is Friday, Jan. 13 and continues Friday evenings through Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in Studio III (there is no class on Jan. 20). This no-charge, no-registra- tion spin class is great fun and the movies are shown on a 42-inch screen. This year there are six wonderful films. Warren Miller’s Higher Ground kicks things off on Jan. 13. This 98-minute movie shows nature’s riskiest challenges as only Warren Miller can bring them.
