USTA Intersectionals
Congratulations to Amy Closs Miller and Elise Orban for their participation in the USTA National Women’s Intersectional Team Event on Nov. 14-20 in Boca Raton, Fla. Players invited to compete in this event were up against the top players in their age group from the 16 USTA sections in the United States. Orban and Closs were selected to be part of the women’s 45s team from the Pacific Northwest. They joined five of the best players in the section to form a seven-woman team that played three singles and two doubles matches in each round. Results were not available by print time.
Chris Graham, left, and Chip Rothenberger were a doubles team for the MAC men’s 3.0 team, which fin- ished fourth at nationals in Tuscon in October.
Junior Tournament There is still time to sign up for the MAC Junior
Tennis Tournament. All youth tennis players are encouraged to join the fun. Matches are determined by age level with draws in 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 and under. The tournament takes place Friday, Dec. 9 to Sunday, Dec. 11. There is food and prizes. On Sunday, there is a hosted, mixed-doubles play period to wind down the weekend. The tournament is singles only.

Tennis conditioning classes The hot new trend at MAC is tennis condi- tioning. For any member who has ever come off of the tennis court feeling guilty enough after a doubles game to add a run to a workout, this is the ticket. If you haven’t tried it yet, go online and check out the multiple options available to all levels of players or check them out in the Winter Class Guide. Participants who enjoy these classes say how much fun they have working up a sweat playing different games for points. The classes keep members moving like a cardio class, but they engage the mind because every play earns points. Classes are for men and women. Sign up early as classes are limited to the first eight players who sign up. These classes are better than an aerobics class because they offer personal and group challenge as well as skill building and fun tennis. They are a
No show policy
As a courtesy to other members, please cancel courts ahead of time if unable to make a reserva- tion. MAC policy states that members are fined if they do not show up and fail to cancel the court. During the USTA season MAC wants to maximize member usage, and court times are at a premium all week. Members should call the reservation line at 503-517-7590 and cancel as soon as they know they cannot use the court.
