Edenbridge CHRONICLE DECEMBER 2011
Church overflows with glad tidings
THE huge success of Christingle services in Edenbridge has resulted in two events being planned in the local parish church to cope with demand. The church has been spurred into action after some people were unable to attend last year despite the introduction of a second venue and ticket system.
Getting into the Christmas spirit at the Edenbridge Primary School craft and gift fair were Caroline Jones, Nicky Evans, Wendy Ayles, Steve Ayles and Jacqueline Brewer. The fair featured button jewellery and Christmas decorations made by the children along with many other stalls, light lunches and cakes.
THE CATHEDRALS EXPRESS
Steam Train Tour of the WHITE CLIFFS from EDENBRIDGE Thursday 22nd December
Christingle is held on Christmas Eve and features children acting out the traditional nativity story while passages from the Bible are read out. Towards the end of the service symbolic oranges with sweets and candles are distributed to youngsters in the congregation.
St Peter and St Paul has held the delightful short service for about 20 years but numbers have been climbing year on year with people now travelling from miles around to attend. Fears about safety resulted in the Eden Church being asked to host a service too but now even that is not enough and the decision was taken to hold a second service in the much bigger parish church. And with the roof now repaired, it will be able to stage a complete circle of candles as in the past. Tickets are available from Edenbridge Bookshop for the services at 3.45pm and 5pm. There is no cost but a donation of £1 is requested in support of the Children’s Society.
