The best unsigned bands in the uk, and how to find them!
STREET EATERS
GOD EQUALS GENOCIDE
Boy girl duo from California make the kind of bass- heavy, distorted and punchy rock that DFA1979 would’ve made if they had liked Mclusky and The Breeders more. And what a listen THAT would be, dear readers? As well as their shout-laden album Rusty Eyes and Hydrocarbons, the two have also compiled an ace mixtape of unsigned bands entitled Secret Punk and Basement Pop, which is where GEG comes from too. Street Eaters are energy personified – smacking their feelings into overdriven knuckleduster pop. Sounds great right?

Squalling punk kids make discordant, thrashy mess – the world continues to turn...but only because of them. Yes its scrappy, yes its indebted to thousands of garage bands from the year dot but the music and the fun is theirs and its easy to feel what they want you to fee. They’ve put out a bunch of vinyl singles and splits on a variety of labels and continue to batter their guitars into shapes that may have been heard before, but are just as thrilling anyway.

MARIONETTES UPLIFTING SUMMERY LILT IS PERFECT FOR THESE LONG WINTER EVENINGS…
DEERS
Norwich comes up trumps again. This ancient university town has often come out with some of the finest bands you’ve never heard, and some of the greatest and most passionate music journos. Deers join the former, having so far released two EPs of jagged, expansive rock this year – the Red EP being the best of the two – full of melodic twists and occasional jarring riffs. They’ve got two more on the way very soon too. There’s something anthemic in these songs, while also prising some interesting hooks between the catchier moments. Five members, three guitars is a good ratio and it should make some real room for growth as they develop. We suggest you locate your clicky pointer to their bandcamp page and download the Green and Red EP forthwith. We guarantee that you’ll enjoy them.
