23 Amanda Winters PART 1
How exercise can help when the 'D' words hits
Raise your spirits through a series of exercise routines to bring stability and balance. Amanda Winters explains.
hen the D word hits, it’s like a truck slamming into a guard rail…except in slow motion. What you think is going to be something that takes 3 months, takes 2 years, and you just never expected the turbulences that would insue during that time.
W
So you have little left of yourself after going through that stress. What should you do?
Doing yoga, exercising, and surrounding yourself with a good support system are a few positive steps you can take. Personally, I’ve also found visual meditations to be extremely relaxing.
Laying down and either listening to the sound of waves or imaging hearing them crashing against the sand is my personal heaven, and doing this for just 5 minutes can lower your blood pressure and clear your mind so well. Or choose your own “heaven” like a fi eld of grass or
spring fl owers blowing in the wind! Breathing deeply and imagining can take you to a whole new place. It’s also important to remember that what goes in your mouth goes into your brain. If you want to keep your spirits up during this time, it’s important to feed your soul and your mind. Is a doughnut going to energize you and give you the tools to move forward with your life? I don’t think so. It’s possible to eat comfort food that will benefi t you in a multitude of ways. The D word can be scary, but
remembering to take care of yourself can allow it to take a back seat and allow you to become the best you can be throughout this time.
