a before and after, however in my case, I think it was a serious case of “before skin.” That is, I was resis- tant to change and therefore didn’t want to look any different from what I looked like before, which leads me to try not to mislead you, Dear Reader as to the point of all this: I, me, of sound mind and newly distended body (from ample partaking of the Thanks- giving feast) agreed to undertake a makeover session with the won- derful mother-daughter team of Luz and Markely of the Mimada Salon on South Street to transform this frog princess (Genus: hideous maximus) into something fit to be squired around town by a frog prince, (i.e., a French rock star.) And so, on a very grey Saturday, (the day after Black Friday) I re- luctantly pried myself away from

the bosom of family far away, and took a train and a quick bicycle ride up to 1625 South Street, to the very chic Mimada Salon, a place where I daresay the girls of Sex and the City would feel right at home, as it was deliciously decorated in fun pastels, a chaise lounge or two, Phillipe Starck Ghost chairs by the manicurist’s station, Saa- rinen-like tulip chairs appointed in chrome and white upholstered leather to the cozy beige pedicure spa “thrones” where one could lay back, and let the strains on one’s back be soothed by the strains of Bach and the gentle kneading from the massage chair. Audrey, whose very name and efficient manner fit in perfectly with the gracious, minimalist surroundings, attend- ed expertly to my poor feet with such care: beginning with a min- eral foot soak, buffing with a pum- ice stone, exfoliating with a scrub, followed by an exquisite foot fruit masque (created especially by the salon with bananas, milk proteins and all-natural organic ingredi- ents), which was towel-wrapped warmly around my feet for all that

ith the holiday season in full gear, many residents are expected at this First Fri-


day on the 900-1300 blocks of Pine Street. After all, its collection of boutiques, craft stores and antique shops make it an ideal destination for holiday shopping. There’s the vintage items sold at boutiques like Blendo and Happily Ever After, which specialize in toys. The handmade artwork and jew- elry sold at the Spirit of the Artist (SOTA). And who could forget the clothing sold at establishments such as Addiction and the Sample Rack. Then of course there are the corridor’s eating establishments such as Mixto, Effie’s, the Farm and the Fisherman as well as the Good Karma Coffee Shop. Many of the features at this

Chic Fish- town Still A Drug Capital

Many have a glazed look in their eyes, recalling Wolf Rilla’s 1960 film, Village of the Damned. Withdraw from methadone can be more difficult than withdraw from heroin. That’s why when metha- done clinics put patients on a with- draw program they usually drop the intake by about 5 mg. per visit until the patient is down to noth- ing. After treatment there are still problems because most patients ex- perience withdraw symptoms and have difficulty sleeping. This situ- ation often becomes so intolerable that most go back to methadone or
