Resident sound off about Cook County tax increases Defender Staff Report

The 2012 Cook County budget -- $2.9 billion -- under Board President Toni Preckwinkle's administration increases taxes on alcohol, boats, cigars and new cars,

among others. The budget also allows the board president to stick to her pledge to eliminate the previous sales tax increase. A daily parking fee of $4.75 at county courthouses will be imposed, however, early vot- ers, jurors, law officers and witness-

es are exempt from the fee.

Louis Robinson said while he understands budget cutting is necessary, it appears the budg- et isn't cut in the right places.

Sally Washington's response: “Sick and tired.”

Kenneth Ramsey said (former Cook County Board President) Todd Stroger should still be in office.
