Saltburn Athletic (Junior) FC Under 8s

The season is now well underway and a further three games have been played by the Under 8s team. The first game was a home game against Redcar Athletic, a team we had been successful against previously. The Redcar team, however, had recruited new players which had strengthened their team. Despite competing well we didn’t manage to score and we were undone in the end. The opposition certainly didn’t run away with it. Man of the Match was Cameron Wood. The second game was an away match at Redcar

Town. Again the opposition proved too strong and a lacklustre display meant we were well outplayed but we did manage to score. The score was kept down to a reasonable level. Man of the Match was goalkeeper Kaiden Gregory. The third game was at home to Normanby and as

they say good things come to those who wait. We feared the worst as illness and other matters meant we fielded the remaining seven players. However, they did the team and the Club proud as they pulled off a comfortable victory. Man of the Match was again Kaiden Gregory who had injured his hand and was unable to play in goal but did remarkably well as a defender. Well done to all of the team. For those readers who are wondering why we have

not shown the scores and goal scorers it is because of a Football Association directive that teams at Under 8 and below cannot publish these facts. The FA are making new proposals for the season

2013/14 season. One of these new proposals is the introduction of 9 – a – side which could be introduced

The Under10s recorded their first points of the season with a hard earned draw against Thirsk Falcons and a tight win against Normanby Juniors. The Players have developed a great team spirit with friendships being formed across the local area. As ever, the main thing with junior football is that the young players continue to enjoy both training and playing competitive matches. This has resulted in noticeable improvements to all players both in terms of individual skill and a desire to play football as part of a team.

New players, from school year 5, are always

welcome to join - please contact Chris Watson Tel : 07818 513774. Finally, thanks to Dawn Yeoman, Debbie Cush and

others for their hard work on the Tuck Shop; the Players will be enjoying a Christmas Laser Tag Party at Mini Monsters in Ruswarp.
