cancer at 33, after she found a sizeable lump in her breast. The affect- ed breast was removed, and she received six months of chemotherapy. Two years later, the cancer recurred in Carla’s other breast— discovered by a mammogram she almost postponed because she was “too busy.” Again, she had surgery and chemotherapy, performed by her team of doctors at Sylvester: surgeon Frederick Moffat, M.D., and oncologist Orlando Silva, M.D. A former Miami Dolphins cheerleader, Carla is cheering herself on these days as she celebrates four years free of cancer.
