Unveils New Women’s Center and Radiation Oncology Center
The medical team at Sylvester at Deerfield Beach proudly unveiled its newly expanded center to the community at an
event attracting nearly 400 people. The facility boasts a full slate of new programs and state-of-the-art options for patients, including a Women’s Center and Radiation Oncology Center.

At the premiere event, community supporters toured the facility, which has expanded from 10,000 to 50,000 square feet of space. The center opened in 2003 to serve Broward and Palm Beach county residents with only seven exam rooms; it now is home to 30 cancer specialists led by Mohammad Jahanzeb, M.D., professor of medicine and medical director of Sylvester at Deerfield Beach. Jahanzeb plans to make the academic-based cancer facility the “top choice for cancer patients because of our expertise and team approach to cancer care.” Charles Vogel, M.D., FACP, professor of medicine and renowned breast cancer expert, leads the Women’s Center, which includes digital mammography for screening and diagnosis, high-resolution breast ultrasound, breast MRI, image-guided biopsies, and comprehensive breast and gynecologic cancer services. The Radiation Oncology Center, led by Laura M. Freedman, M.D., associate professor of radiation oncology, provides access to comprehensive radiation therapy. The center recently added a second linear accelerator with the latest technology for stereotactic radiosurgery, TrueBeamTM

As part of Sylvester’s multidisciplinary team approach, supportive oncology services, including acupuncture, nutritional services and exercise physiology, are offered to help patients cope with cancer and achieve a healthy physical, emotional, social and spiritual state.
UHealth Imaging also is housed at the facility, offering an arsenal of diagnostic tools such as 64-slice CT scan, PET/CT, SPECT/CT, MRI and ultrasound, all instrumental in cancer diagnosis, monitoring and treatment.
