DECIDING
WHERE TO DO YOUR MBA? READ ON...
The global economy
is still
fragile. Those of you considering heading to business school for an MBA (Master in Business Administration) may well be wondering whether the investment of time and money is worth it.
The answer is: it depends. While the MBA is not an automatic precursor to a job in front office investment banking or strategy consulting (was it ever?!), there are still plenty of MBA options around the world that are great learning, networking and career-boosting opportunities.
You need to be realistic about what you’ll do afterwards and at BusinessBecause, if we advise one thing, it’s that candidates speak to the careers directors and alumni of the business schools they’re applying to.
This is particularly important if you’re relying on your MBA to buy you some post-study work experience abroad. With work visa restrictions tightening for different types of grads in different countries, choose a business program in a country where there are opportunities in your sector and check the visa requirements.
Here’s a round-up of some of the most interesting MBAs internationally right now.
40 Germany
There’s a reason European countries look to Germany for a bailout when they’re struggling. With world-leading companies making everything from high speed trains to cars to drugs, Germany has experienced an export-led boom while the rest of Europe has sunk into recession. As well as long-standing business schools
like Mannheim and WHU Otto Beisheim, there are some interesting recent additions. In 2002, 25 leading Germany companies joined forces to found the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin. ESMT offers a full-time MBA and an EMBA, both taught in English with specialist tracks in either sustainability or technology management.
