Good Slap
There are some wonderful people out there who work tirelessly to bring lovely, healthy and innovative products to the vegans of the UK. Laura McComiskie, founder of Love the Planet toiletries (cult product must-have: Washable Cleansing Pads, £5.95 for a pack of five from the Viva! shop), has recently extended her expertise to mineral makeup with the launch of BM Beauty. I’m a veteran in this field, having tried countless brands in the past – none of which performed even remotely as well as these products do. The bronzer does not settle into the pores on the face and draw unwanted attention to your imperfections. It stays put and lends a lovely glow. Ditto the eyeshadows, resplendently metallic with magnificent staying power and none of that ‘retreating into the

creases’ malarkey. The lip gloss? It’s honestly the best I’ve used – and I am a self-professed lip gloss strumpet. The colours are subtle, but not tacky or too glaringly glossy. They’re perfect for layering over stain or lippie. Affordably- priced at £7-8 for eye shadows and concealers to £14 for the synthetic makeup brushes, buy from Viva!’s online shop (

Now Smell This
Such is my infamy (possibly imagined!) that I’ve recently been asked, upon several occasions, if I can recommend vegan fragrances that are a bit more multi-layered than some of those available on the High Street (I shall name no names). I’m glad they asked, because I’ve recently discovered the parfumerie Le Labo. Created by expert (vegan – and French!) perfumers, Edouard Roschi and Fabrice Penot, these are not cheap – but they are special. Each blend is built round a primary essence which originates in Grasse, France. At the moment, there are 12 blends and a 15ml bottle will set you back a whopping £38. Ouch! But…if you know someone who appreciates some right good and proper smelly stuff, you should really

surprise them with quality. Sample sizes (1.5ml) are also available for £3. There’s a shop in London. Otherwise, steer the wheel of your webship to

recommend Pacifica Perfumes. Everything made by Pacifica is vegan and my personal favourites are Tahitian Gardenia and (surprise!) French Lilac. The solid perfume versions are £9.49 and the 30ml sprays are £17.99 from
www.cherrycloud.co.uk. At least one person thanked me profusely for making her aware of these. She bought Persian Rose and now her sweat smells of Turkish Delight. Yum? Well, it’s got to be better than smelling like the gym.
