uk4u Thanks! enjoys close links to the MoD. It is one of only four charities recommended as recipients of general public donations in lieu of sending unsolicited gifts to Service personnel at Christmas but who sponsors these wonderful gifts? Although the MoD gives guidance and assistance with moving the Christmas Boxes, no funding is supplied.
uk4u has a number of
Defence industry companies such as BAE Systems, Finmeccanica, Cooneen Watts and Stone, Sodexo Defence also Marks & Spencer.
There are also many individuals, clubs, associations, churches and branches of the British Legion who have donated personally, and/or raised money, and/ or given their time voluntarily to help the Charity including all the units who support the uk4u annual launch and lunch.
We do however always need more sponsors to ensure we can continue to provide Service personnel with ‘a gift from the nation’ until the time when all our Service personnel are at home over Christmas. Can you help? Perhaps by running coffee mornings, taking part in sponsored walks/runs/marathons/cycle rides or other money making activity. Or if you have a marvellous fundraising idea, we would like to hear from you.
This Christmas 22,500 boxes are being sent. Contents vary from year to year. As an example the 2009 contained: Christmas hat; travel kit including neck pillow, eye mask and ear plugs; key ring torch; head torch; juggling balls; Frisbee; sewing kit (with military coloured thread!); pocket mirror; flashing LED armband; multi-tool; tiger tail balloons; playing cards; padlock; box of assorted teabags; Christmas greetings DVD; Christmas Card; Christmas Carol sheet.
Here are just a few of the many comments the charity received from last year’s Christmas Box recipients: “Thank you for the box of goodies to open on Christmas Day, everyone loved the presents and we are grateful for the efforts of those at home”.
