HEALTH & LIFESTYLE STEP UP AND STEP FORWARD 14-18 year-olds for action and adventure…

The Annington Trust and Outward Bound Trust are offering children of Armed Forces personnel the chance to apply for one of 30 places on The Annington Challenge, an eight day Outward Bound Serious Adventure course to be held in Summer 2012.

“We are all better than we know. If only we can be brought to realise this, we may never be prepared to settle for anything less.” KURT HAHN, Co-founder of The Outward Bound Trust

T

he Outward Bound Trust provides exciting, outdoor adventure and learning courses in some of the most

breathtakingly beautiful wilderness environments in the UK from their

centres in the Lake District, Scottish Highlands and Snowdonia.

Each participant will learn to rock climb, navigate through hills, scramble up gorges and paddle across stunning waters before embarking on a two-night camping expedition. Learning from adventure and the challenges of the great outdoors will help you gain confidence and develop key life skills, including leadership, problem solving, teamwork and communication.

Any 14-18 year-olds of Armed Forces families wishing to be considered for a place in The Annington Challenge simply need to fill out an application form. A personal statement on the form will need to demonstrate evidence of drive, initiative and willingness to fundraise the £50 participant contribution required to attend a course. The remaining course fee will be met by The Annington Trust, which is committed to offering this exciting opportunity to young people who may not ordinarily be able to access such an experience.

The Application process

Applicants must be aged between 14-18 years old, be prepared to write a short report of their experiences once they have attended the course, and provide contact details of a suitable referee, such as a parent/guardian, teacher, Commanding Officer or Community Development Worker.

Application forms can be found at www. anningtontrust.org. Forms can be completed online or downloaded. Alternatively, please telephone 020 7960 7504 to request a form to be sent. Applications should be submitted no later than 28 Feb 12. All applicants will be notified by 31 Mar 12 if they have been awarded a place, nominated as a reserve or were unsuccessful. Those awarded a place should pay their £50 contribution by 30 Apr 12 and must make their own transport arrangements to and from their chosen Outward Bound centre. Course information, dates and centre availability for summer 2012 can be found at www.outwardbound.org.uk
