How do you keep yourself relevant and up to date?

I hire great staff! I also do a lot of research into new ideas and I attend international conferences. And I have to be techno-savvy.

How do you adapt to changing times? You reinvent the company a little every few years. You need to keep yourself fresh so you don’t burn out. And you can’t be averse to change.

How has innovation contributed to the growth of the business?

A huge amount. Technology in our industry is updating all the time. Also, to offer our clients more, we have bought Vizrt equipment. This is software and hardware that allows us to provide live 3D graphics for sporting events, elections and other live programming, as well as stereoscopic television, touch- screens and virtual studios. Vizrt stands for VisualiZation (in) Real Time and ZSspace is actually the leading VizRT operator in the Asia/Pacific region.

A particular challenge met and how it was handled?

We branded the first digital channel GO! for Nine Network Australia. We were given four weeks to complete a job that would normally take three months. We split the work into teams, one team working on the main network identity, and one on promos. We’re not afraid to work long hours at ZSpace, but we make sure we treat our staff well and reward their hard work.

Where do you see your business in the future?

Continuing to grow. We are always on the look out for new business opportunities. We have been working in China, Dubai and Singapore over the last few years. We’re looking outside Australia because the market here is very competitive for its size.

What plans do you have in place to grow and realise the value of your business?

We will continue to hire the best staff possible, and we are taking marketing seriously these days. Our website is currently being completely overhauled.

What do you think are the challenges ahead? How are you going to tackle them?

A huge challenge for us is the internet which brings down costs and therefore effects what we can charge. We need to ensure that we have a better service and better design than our competitors. Keeping our good reputation for quality work is imperative. And we always give our clients one on one service.

What do you think are some of the opportunities for your business in the coming years?

Televisions of the future will have internet etc all in one, so television as a format will change – and our work will need to change accordingly.
