Move With The Times Or Perish...

The Business: Advenzia The Hero: Peter Smith The Alchemist: John Smith, Hertfordshire Made In: United Kingdom

Peter Smith, founder of Advenzia, a web design company, is someone who is known to adapt and move with the times. He does not wait for his business to become irrelevant, but takes advantage of new developments to redefine his business offerings and positioning.

Peter closed his business providing computer graphics for print media to start a web design business 10 years ago. He now has enough work to keep 3 other web designers busy and is looking at cementing the right systems in his business before any further growth.

“There is a massive shift in marketing from print media to web media… We see this as a key part for businesses surviving in the recession.” Peter says.

He himself has done away with traditional advertising methods. Just six years ago, he was spending around £15,000 on marketing his business, half of that was to advertise in Yellow Pages. Peter says, “It is much cheaper, if done correctly, to get an internet presence. Companies now have the advantage to scale it up or down more rapidly as they feel the need.” But Peter warns that with demand the cost for good web design is going up.

Peter is convinced that businesses that won’t invest in marketing, especially in difficult times like what we are experiencing now, will just die. “People think that any sort of marketing is very expensive. I personally believe it is far more expensive not to do it,” he says.
