When asked to describe his business, John Sollars puts it simply. ‘We sell ink.’ ‘Why ink?’ ‘Why not? Somebody has to sell it…” he says cheekily.


It seems John has learned from past business ventures, has no regrets and is currently sitting pretty as one of the top 4 internet ink suppliers in the UK. John is a character. It comes through the way he talks about his business and the way he runs his business. He is very down to earth, practical and a pragmatic businessman- and very focussed on where he wants to take his business.


John started his web-based ink business, StinkyInk.com in 2002. The Internet wasn’t at all what it is today and John found the experience both difficult and wonderful. After years on the hunt for customers working as a door-to-door electronics salesman, John loved the way the Internet brought customers to him.


He got into the ink business to get away from the electronic business. John re-calls “Why not ink? Somebody’s got to sell it. Ink is a consumable item that fits easily in the post and is absolutely ideal for selling on the Internet. I was on the road for twenty years selling electronic components and decided I wanted another business. So this it; ink!”
