by Andrea Ganley-Dannewitz On Saturday just after 3 p.m. the south side of Route 28 had traffic coming to a stand still after an armed robbery was reported at Qi Natural Healing at 329 South Broadway. The call originally reported a male subject with a gun was robbing the Lucky Dragon Chinese restaurant, but it was later determined that Qi Natural Healing was where the alleged incident took place. Officers including a Salem Police K-9 Unit arrived on scene quickly. Allegedly the suspect is described as about 5-feet, 20 years of age, Caucasian male wearing a black jacket, black jeans, and a black skull cap. He was also described as being “clean cut.” Officers from Salem and Methuen, MA, Police Departments scoured the area looking for the suspect who fled the scene on foot. According to Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten the suspect appeared to have fled in the direction of Ann Avenue and it is not believed he got away with any money. There is very little information about the incident but the case is
active and ongoing. Anyone with any information should contact the Salem Police Department at 893-1911 or the Southern New Hampshire Crimeline at 893-6600.
Gov. Lynch Asks PUC
Review to Focus on Utilities’ Preparedness
One November 8, Gov. John Lynch sent a letter to the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) asking the commission focus on whether the utilities were adequately prepared as it conducts its review of the response of New Hampshire’s regulated utilities to the recent snowstorm. Many New Hampshire citizens were without power for several days, and some had lost power for a week. “It appears that some utilities worked pro-actively to secure the additional crews they needed to restore power quickly for their customers, and they are to be commended. But I am deeply concerned that it took until Saturday – a week after the storm – to see power restored to all our citizens. Like many New Hampshire citizens, I have questions about whether all New Hampshire utilities were sufficiently prepared, whether utilities could have done anything to shorten the length of the recent outages, or whether there were steps that could have been taken to reduce the number of outages,” Gov. Lynch wrote in his letter to the commission. The PUC had planned on conducting an after-action review of the utilities’ response to the storm and widespread power outages.
A new reason to smile.
