“Thumbs up to Alvirne High School for offering

hot showers during the recent power outage. We really appreciate your kindness. Many thanks!”

“Thumbs down to the travel basketball coach in Litchfield. You never fail to disappoint.”

“Thumbs down to the Litchfield Town Administrator for wasting tax payer’s money. Has anyone look to see what is record is in the past. This guy is a snake. I know he is trying to put a warrant article together to make his position a town manger. The residents of Litchfield need to wake up and see what this guy is all about. Go to the town hall and just ask the people he works with everyday they will tell you. The selectman know they made a mistake hiring him.”

“Thumbs down to all the readers of the Area News that do not get it (the towns are not there to clean up the brush you put on the street). The town workers did a super job during the storm’s aftermath. Now homeowners do your share and do not dump things on the curb. Take the time to say thank you for all that was done to help out. To those who checked on your neighbors, well thank you!! For all that forgot to say so.”

“Thumbs down to those who believe it is the other person who is always wrong if you lie about it then the world really won’t care anyhow, they just laugh at you in the lounge when you are gone, get over it, they see what you are.”

“Thumbs up to Officer Scotti and I’m sorry I did not get the other officers name and the staff at Hudson Animal Hospital, for their help and support after my dog was shot by a hunter.”

“Thumbs down to the art teacher at Hills Garrison. I am all for keeping a well-behaved classroom, but telling children that they are the cause of her migraines, or that they are horrible is not my idea of a stable teacher. If her daily behavior involves yelling, belittling, and scaring the kids, perhaps she should consider retirement.”

“Thumbs up to Chief O’Brion for restarting the Nixel program. Thank you chief for keeping us informed.”

“Thumbs down to the man who says that most of the complaining is from people who missed ‘Dancing with the Stars’. I don’t appreciate you comparing my situation of having no communication, no heat, no electricity, no job and a recent death in the immediate family with whoever you are thinking about. It’s a good thing I was able to get a power inverter to power a sump pump before the flooded basement destroyed the furnace. Didn’t we learn from the last several (I can count five of them) power outages over the last three years?”

“Thumbs up/down? Ok, I have to react to this

one. Who has the harder job? Working moms or stay-at-home-moms? First of all, we are all working moms. I have been fortunate to be both at one time or another. Being a stay-at home mom Is tough work. It is 24/7 with no lunch hour & no coffee break; there is no ‘down’ time and most of your socializing is done with little ones. It is multi-tasking to the extreme! That being said, I wouldn’t have traded it for anything. Let’s all give each other credit. Very few of us don’t ‘work’. Don’t sell the woman next to you short!”

“Thumbs down to hunting in Hudson. The low numbers of game and lack of large hunting

areas are a huge public safety hazard. Living next to Musquash this time of year is terrifying, you realize that some rifles can send a bullet up to a mile away, right? Spend less money on cheats like lures, scents and calls and use that money to travel upstate into some actual wilderness and hunt like your grandfathers did. Your over- eagerness to shoot at anything that moves is only going to cause more heartbreak. This time it was

“Thumbs up to the Hudson PD Records and Legal Clerks. Thank you for your hard work and dedication as it is vital to the operation of the police department.”

“Thumbs Down to the Hudson Police Department. Nuff Said!”

“Thumbs up to the Southern New Hampshire

a dog. If that doesn’t matter to you, and it should, try to imagine it being your kid next time.”

“Thumbs up to Mr. Crooker of Hudson, for stopping to put out my engine fire! I appreciate your willingness to pull over and save my day! With your help in putting out the fire, I was able to get it fixed up and drive away. You were my angel that morning. I will surely pay it forward. Please know you are greatly appreciated!”

“Thumbs up to Mikaela Ashley Wentzell! You are the best friend I could possible ask for! Ever since 7th grade we have had the best times ever like, painting our faces, trick or treating in July, and making chocolate milk go all over your mom. I love you so much! I don’t know what I would do without you! Love you!!!”

Steelers Pop Warner Football Team for a great first year! It was such a refreshing change to see a team where all players participated equally. Our son really enjoyed and looked forward to playing football this year. Keep up the good work!!!”

“Thumbs up to tsoucy for waking up in the morning and putting on your big boy pants”

“Thumbs down again to a communication gap between the town and taxpayers without kids in the school system. There was a ceremony for Veterans Day at L.M.S. I did not hear about. There was also a senior meal at the Community Church but unless you drove past the Town Hall you would not know about it. They sure can let me know when my taxes are due.”

“Thumbs up to Benson’s Park and all the people

who have put so much work into cleaning it up and making a park the community can be proud of. Very impressive!”

“Thumbs down to the Litchfield selectmen are

you men that crazy, Giving Jason Hoch full reign to our money, Why you do not think our taxes are high enough. We can barely live in this town now. With his spending we wont be able too.”

“Thumbs up To Lisa and Pierre Garand January 6th is right around the corner good luck!!!”

“Thumbs up to the Cast and Crew of Campbell High School’s production of ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’, your performance was outstanding. How is Litchfield producing such amazingly talented children? Whatever you’re doing it, keep going. Also, thumbs up to the Campbell’s Chorus and Band Department as well as the Mathematician Choreographer and of course the former star of Broadway herself for again directing, choreographing, and managing the Band, words can not express this communities thanks. Your wonderful.”

“Thumbs up or down don’t write negative comments in this paper if you are not ready for us to respond back in a negative way it go’s both ways!!!!”

“Thumbs down to anyone who applauds what our NH representatives have done with the budget in Concord. By supporting them, you either support tax increases at the local level (because costs have obviously been passed down) or you just have no idea what’s really happening.”

“Thumbs down to the NH Retirement system that allows firefighters to average $79K retirement pensions a year at age 55 because they’re able to game the system and get a high last three years pay by performing planned overtime that is sanctioned by the system, while most employees work to 65, with a $15K /year pension. What a country!”

“Thumbs down to the irresponsible dog owners in Hudson who allow their dogs to wonder the woods unattended and unmarked during hunting season. Did you remember that there is a leash law in Hudson and your dog was a distance from you. Having your husband wear orange does not protect your pet from harm. If you really cared about your pet it would have been on a leash or tied in your back yard. Maybe you shouldn’t own a dog.”

“Thumbs up to the artist for painting the beautiful mural at the Gorilla House in Benson Park in Hudson!! Thank you for your courage and dedication. His reward was for the chairman of Benson to call it ‘graffiti’, Chairman of the BOS to yell at him to stop, Selectmen to now hold him responsible for future graffiti at the park “or else”!! Selectmen not able to correct their bad decision of Chairman and serve him!! He acts the same in Concord. Voters, call your Selectmen or ‘popets’?”

Hudson Memorial Students Open Their Cupboards to Help St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry

submitted by Karen O’Brien Students from Hudson Memorial School (HMS) recently made a large donation to benefit a local food pantry, as both Mrs. O’Brien’s and Mr. Mousseau’s C.O.L.T. time classes helped organize the collection of approximately 900 food items. The boxes and bags of food were brought to St. Vincent De Paul food pantry and the reward of a pizza party for the top homerooms per grade and lunch with “Mr. Moo” for the top donating science class. HMS Assistant Principal Mr. Bowen and Mrs. Howe, the eighth grade guidance counselor, helped Mrs. O’Brien deliver the goods on Friday, November 18, with the help of Mr. Bowen’s wife, Lori, and their two daughters, Madelynn and Michaella. HMS welcomes the opportunity to help St. Vincent De Paul, which services families in need. C.O.L.T. time classes are a time when students from HMS work in small groups on school-wide themes and activities, but also develop community service-based projects.

Shaw’s Supports Local Food

Banks With The Spirit Of Giving 2011 Food Drive

Shaw’s Supermarkets®, part of the nation-wide SUPERVALU® family of grocery stores, kicked-off its Spirit of Giving Food Drive today, encouraging customers to give back to those in need this holiday season. The program allows shoppers to purchase pre-assembled food bags at Shaw’s locations that will then be donated to local hunger relief partners and food banks. From now through December 18, Shaw’s customers can purchase pre- assembled bags that contain much-needed holiday food items ranging from green beans to tomato sauce for $5, $10 or $15. Once purchased, the pre-assembled bags will be placed in a designated drop bin and Shaw’s stores will deliver them to a local food partner. With the holidays around the corner, the 2011 Spirit of Giving Food Drive makes it convenient for customers to contribute directly to hunger relief in their community. “The need for hunger relief is prevalent all year, but it takes on an added level of importance during the holiday season,” said Mike Stigers, president, Shaw’s. “At Shaw’s we are acutely aware of the hunger problems within our community and are pleased to be able to launch the Spirit of Giving initiative to encourage our customers and associates to help get food to those who need it.” All of the food collected during the Spirit of Giving drive will go directly to community food banks and pantries throughout Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island. In keeping with the spirit of being a neighborhood grocer, store directors at all 169 Shaw’s locations have worked to identify local organizations within their communities who will be the recipients of the food.

While donating food is a reward in itself, Shaw’s has an added incentive for its shoppers to participate in the Spirit of Giving program. With the purchase of a Spirit of Giving Bag, shoppers can earn game tickets for Shaw’s Wish Big, Win Big Holiday Giveaway and have a chance to win more than $15 million in prizes and money savings offers. As part of Shaw’s continued effort to help combat hunger this holiday season, the grocery retailer has also donated approximately 10,000 turkeys to food partners across five states – Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. For more details on Shaw’s Supermarkets and its holiday programs, visit www. shaws.com or its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/shaws.
