Grey Coat 6 Issue 16: October 2011 GCH students

Change Day started in a spectacular fashion. Every girl, when they turned the corner onto either St Michael's or St Andrew's would have seen a blue police box in front of the entrance door. They would then have had to walk through the tardis and into the school and the day of change, represented by ‘Doctor Who’ the man who is always changing.

balloon animals by a selection of sixth formers as were all the other years in the school.

In addition to the form time activities, the year groups experienced a wealth of other events throughout the day. Year 7 learnt about what it would have been like to have attended The Grey Coat Hospital

physical activity was Bollywood dancing which they all enjoyed greatly. Each per- son had a go at making covered buttons with DT department and learned how you can change and recycle fabric. Year 8 experience what lessons could be like in the future and had an exciting ‘futuristic’ lesson using ipads. Each form also had the chance to participate in a skipping workshop and learned some new and interesting ways of skipping from a coach from outside of school. Each form got creative and made head bands with help from the DT department.

There was also the opportunity for a selection of Year 8 and 9 pupils to use the ‘techno room’. This room had lots of different technological equipment from across the decades; from gramophones to old mobile telephones. Two pupils from each tutor group were specially selected and worked with Ms Maljee and Ms Picard to create their own movies using this equipment. We look forward to seeing their work soon.

Playing the 'game of life'

At both Upper and Lower school, all pupils were given the chance to listen to Emmanuel Jal (an actor from the film ‘Africa United’). He spoke to us about his experiences as a child soldier and his campaign now for world peace. His words were incredibly inspiring and everyone joined in at the end to sing a song that supports the charity run by Emmanuel Jal himself. Then the year groups split off and took part in their own activities.

All tutor groups spent an extended amount of form time making a form slogan, decorating cakes and decorat- ing their form notice boards (which all look amazing) to represent the theme of ‘change’. The forms all spent some time discussing the inspiring talk that was given by Emmanuel Jal. Also in form time they were taught how to make
