Eleanor's work experience


During my Work Experience I went to work with TFL. For the first week I was working with engineers in Blackfriars and learnt all about traffic lights! Never had I realised how much planning and knowledge was required to control and build a crossing let alone a junction with 4 or 5 signals. My favourite day was when I was taken off-site to a junction near lower school and got to control the lights and determine when each vehicle could go.

The projects are highly technical and we provide the experience for Holly to get the feeling of working in an engineering environment (Roke Manor Research)


Charlotte excelled at all of her tasks and was enthusiastic and willing. She makes a particularly fine Children’s bookseller. During her two weeks Charlotte implemented some excellent initiatives in the children’s section which have made a tremendous difference to the shop (G. Heywood Hill Ltd)

Madeleine is organised, efficient

and extremely competent; she has an excellent rapport with people of all ages. She fitted in well as a team member and demonstrated her ability to work independently. A willingness to help others and takes responsibility for the task in hand. (UOP Ltd)


During my second week with TFL I worked with a Finance department near the O2 and learnt so much about what’s involved in paying money in and out of accounts and how hard it is to keep track of every amount of money in TFL’s control. On the last day I had to do a presentation about my experience at TFL to staff and other students which was nerve racking but went really well. All in all I had a fabulous two weeks and would definitely recommend Work Experience at TFL to anyone. Eleanor Armstrong 11G
