ROOF, CLADDING & INSULATION Underground

Kensington living The use of Sika®

Watertight Concrete

has enabled A.P.Arcon Construction to construct an exciting new, partly subterranean mansion on a strip of previously vacant land between two existing buildings in Kensington. The main bedrooms, entrance and garage space are built above ground, but the main living, entertainment and swimming pool areas are underground, so total water-tightness was an essential requirement on the project. For this reason, A P Arcon chose Sika®

Watertight Concrete to

construct the below ground shell of the building. Close to 1,000 cubic metres of Sika®

Watertight Concrete

were supplied by Hanson Concrete to create a watertight structure that conforms to BS8102 Grade 3 for habitable space. Sika®

Concrete is a high performance, cost effective solution, saving time at both the design and construction stages. It also delivers the maximum usable area to the developer, For more information call 0800 292 2572, email concreteinnovation@ uk.sika.com or visit www.sikawater tightconcrete.co.uk.

Scooping solution

The first Council homes to be built in Manchester for 20 years are optimising energy efficiency through innovation from Glidevale Ltd. Designed by architects Bowker Sadler and built by the Cruden Group, the 32 two-bedroom bungalows are set to achieve Level 4 under the Code for Sustainable Homes, using energy efficient features including Glidevale Sunscoop tubular rooflights. Glidevale’s Sunscoop is innovatively designed with highly reflective tubing to connect the roof-mounted glazed dome to the diffuser set in the ceiling below. The design of the bungalows’ roofs and interior meant each roof-mounted flashing

RockShell Wall System

Rockwool has launched a new exterior load bearing wall system which integrates high levels of insulation into its design to deliver an energy efficient solution to the Zero Carbon challenge whilst keeping wall

had to be installed close to a valley and ridge between two adjacent roofs. As a result, a 350mm dia Sunscoop SR95 is being installed in each of the 32 homes. For more information call 0161 905 5700, email info@glidevale.com or visit www.glidevale.com.

thickness to a minimum. Passivhaus certified, the system achieves a typical U- Value of 0.143W/m2

K, making it an ideal

specification for projects targeting superior thermal performance. A patented modular system with few components, RockShell is delivered to site in ‘kit form’ according to the specified building design. Constructed of I- shaped steel profiles encompassed in heavy Rockwool insulation and an OSB lining on the inside, RockShell is quick and easy to install and requires no specialist equipment. These factors culminate in minimal waste on-site and ultimately time and cost savings for the developer. For more information call 01656 868400, email rockshell@rockwool.co.uk or visit www.rockshell.uk.com.

bale development ISO-Chemie’s ISO-BLOCO One expanding foam tape has been specified for Europe’s largest straw bale development currently under way at the Inspire Bradford Business Park. The tape is being used to provide a high performance airtight, acoustic and thermal interior and exterior seal between the straw-filled, cassette-style prefabricated panels used to construct two buildings on the park. Tape strips have been installed in the 10 mm expansion joints between the three m² bale blocks to form a 0.86 m³/ hour/m² measured at 50 pascals air tight seal – the construction industry norm is anything

MINIMAL SITE DISRUPTION FOR TK MAXX

It was found during the refurbishment of the TK Maxx store in Almondvale Retail Park that the PVC-coated steel roof sheets were suffering from both ‘classic cut edge corrosion’ and age-related coating delamination. However, the store could not be closed down for costly repairs, so, instead, Delvemade was specified in order to provide weather and corrosion

resistance with no site disruption. First of all, the roof was treated with Seamsil by qualified applicator IDCS, preventing further corrosion to the critical lap joints and other areas of cut edges and fixings. Next, a two coat application of Delcote silicone coating was applied in Albany Grey, a colour exclusive to the Delcote system. Delcote is a liquid-applied silicone

coating used to re-paint the existing PVC and PVF1 profiled metal roofing to provide protection equal to, or better than, the original product. Used in conjunction with Seamsil, the full system offers a unique seamless solution to the long term protection of most existing metal roofs. For more information call 0161 794 5470 or visit www.delvemade.co.uk.
