High honors – At an awards ceremony Wed., Nov. 30, the governing board will recognize Hancock sixth- grader Ian Graham with the Superintendent’s Citizenship Award, Wendy Stevenson and Jackie Miller as Outstanding Volunteers and fifth-grade teacher Vanessa Barutha with the Triple A Award.
Hancock Movie Night – From 5:30 to 8 p.m. Fri., Nov. 18, two movies will be shown. One will be in the courtyard and one in the multi-purpose room. The PTO will be selling water, candy and popcorn. For details, contact the Hancock PTO at
hancockpto@gmail.com. Buy books – Hancock will hold its Book Fair Fri., Dec. 2 at the Barnes & Noble book store at Chandler Fashion Center. A portion of all proceeds will be returned to Hancock to buy books for its Media Center. Busy December - Hancock has a lot of events planned for December. Second-graders will have a winter program at 6 p.m. Thu., Dec. 8. The Hancock Band and Choir will perform a Winter Concert at 6 p.m. Tue., Dec. 13. The Hancock Orchestra will have a concert on Thu., Dec. 15. Each of these events will be in the multi-purpose room. Gardening – The Garden Club is a new science club at Hancock that provides an opportunity for fifth- and sixth-grade students to design, plant and maintain a real vegetable and flower garden on the Hancock campus.
Youth Hull Heroes
Derby Day – Join Hull from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., Nov. 19 for the school’s 3rd Annual Pinewood Derby and Book Fair Fiesta. A Vendor Fair and Gift Basket Silent Auction will also be held during that time; guests can visit the Vendor Fair for holiday shopping and bid on the classroom-sponsored gift baskets. Need turkeys – The Hull Student Council is holding its annual Turkey Drive. Frozen turkeys can be dropped off at the front office by Mon., Nov. 21. Student Council hopes to collect 300 turkeys this year to donate to the Chandler Care Center. Fundraiser fun – Hull students are selling Harkins loyalty cups, T-shirts and gift cards through the end of November. Loyalty cups are $4.75 and are good for $1 drink refills; loyalty T-shirts are $25 and are good for one, free medium popcorn every time the shirt is shown at any Harkins Theatre. Order forms can be picked up in the office. Loyalty cups and T-shirts make great holiday gifts. Thanks due – Thanks to all the volunteers who helped collect Safeway receipts. For each receipt collected, Safeway donates a percentage to Hull. Volunteers earned a total of $3,953.73 for Hull. The money will be used to help fund class trips. Trading places – Hancock student Daniel Noli earned the opportunity to be “Principal for a Day” through his high number of sales of Entertainment Books for the PTO fundraiser. CUSD Budget Committee - This committee meets ten times a year to review the CUSD budget and make related recommendations. Meetings are held at night at a time selected by the committee. Knox Knights
Turkey Drive - Knox will be collecting frozen turkeys in the parking lot from 7:45 to 9 a.m. Fri., Nov. 18, Mon., Nov. 21 and Wed., Nov. 23. Chandler CARE Center will distribute the turkeys to families in need throughout CUSD.
Grandparents celebration - We honor our grandparents from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. Wed., Nov. 23. Bring your grandma and grandpa for breakfast in the Amphitheater. Running Club - Running club started this month and it’s open to all students at Knox. Our goal is to have students get active and stay active. Thanks to Ms. Hicks and Ms. Nowlin for “running” the club. Spirit Days - Fridays are Knox T-shirt day. Every student gets to wear a school shirt and show their pride. Fundraising fun – The Box Tops, Juice Pouches and Labels for Education programs are underway at Knox. Families are encouraged to send in box tops, juice pouches and labels for education to
teachers or the front office. In addition, any Fresh & Easy receipts for more than $20 can be submitted to classroom teachers or the front office; Knox receives money for every receipt collected. —Ximena Rodriguez
