• A statistician is bringing together data from four Ewing sarcoma studies in hopes of finding overarching information that will help develop targeted treatments.

• New data suggests that alterations in two specific genes, p53 and p16, both found in Ewing sarcoma, may help predict future outcomes for these patients. To validate this data, researchers are extracting DNA from more than 100 specimens for potential inclusion in a study.

JakeFest Golf Tournament

Rounds Up Funds for Rhabdo Research

Harry and Robin Koenigs lost their son, Jake, in December 2006 to rhabdomyosarcoma. In 2007, they held the first JakeFest golf tournament in New Jersey to raise money, to benefit CureSearch, for research into rhabdomyosarcoma. This year’s fourth go-round proved more successful than ever. As manager of KTU Construction, a division of Kiewit Construction, one of the largest construction and mining companies in North America, Harry influenced his firm to get involved and Kiewit held fundraising competitions at their job sites to encourage employees to take action. JakeFest 2010, with golf tournaments in New Jersey, Chicago, and Kansas City, raised more than $300,000 for CureSearch.
