Dear Friends of CureSearch:
We are pleased to share with you the CureSearch for Children’s Cancer 2011 Annual Report. In it, you will find that CureSearch is On the Mo
v e.
This year, we rededicated ourselves to our mission and vision and we successfully became a national voluntary health organization. In doing so, we built out our fundraising platform and opened five regional offices across the nation, each of which is conducting fundraising events and activities to increase philanthropic dollars provided to children’s cancer research.
Our signature event, The CureSearch Walk, doubled the number of Walks held last year and saw an increase in revenue of more than 60%. We also launched two new national events, Ultimate Hike and Kick-It. In addition, CureSearch partnered with a number of foundations and corporations which support children’s cancer research.
These relationships allow CureSearch to not only continue funding Children’s Oncology Group member hospitals conducting clinical trials, but to also support disease and discipline specific areas including adolescents and young adults, and long- term follow-up care. One larger initiative for CureSearch was support of the Children’s Cancer Research Network (CCRN). Through the generosity of our philanthropic donors, CureSearch provided $750,000 to support hospital enrollments in CCRN, a program for which federal funding was not available this year.
Also during 2011, we began the overhaul of
www.curesearch.org, which now includes psychosocial content for parents and families to help them manage the emotional aspects of caring for a child with cancer. This evidence-based new section of the site was developed by funds from the Caroline Pryce Walker Conquer Childhood Cancer Act.
Looking to the future, CureSearch will continue to be On the Moe so that with your help, we can achieve our vision: to v
ensure that every child is guaranteed a cure. Thank you for your continued support and for helping to make treatment possible and a cure probable for every young person with cancer.
Sincerely, John L. Lehr
