Feel good about energy
In a world where most of our energy is centralised, controlled, invisible, dirty, complex and finite, Good Energy stands for something different.
Recognising that the key to cutting carbon emissions lay with the way the UK generates energy, I set up Good Energy over 10 years ago to be a catalyst for change in the energy industry. We wanted to help people to make a simple choice at home that could make a big difference to the environment. So we decided to offer people an easy way to buy electricity purely from renewable sources by switching to a company that offers only 100% renewable electricity. Now, all energy suppliers offer a renewable
tariff, but Good Energy remains the only one whose fuel mix is 100% renewable. Without recourse to nuclear power, or fossil fuels, and all generated here in the UK. And to help cut through the greenwash, our main tariff is independently certified by the Green Electricity Supply Scheme.
In talking to our customers, we discovered that not only did people want to know where their power came from, they were also keen on making it themselves. So we began to offer incentives to microgenerators. Our innovative schemes won lots of awards, with the government eventually following our lead and launching a Feed-in Tariff to support people generating their own power. Now one in 15 of our customers also generates their own energy – so we’re actually bringing people closer to the source of their energy. Switching to Good Energy is like buying your

electricity from the farmers’ market rather than the supermarket – we call it homegrown energy.
For every unit of electricity our customers use over the course of a year we supply the equivalent to the grid from a 100% renewable source.
It’s always been part of our plan to invest in our own generation sources as well as buying from a network of independent generators. We rebuilt the UK’s first commercial wind farm at Delabole, Cornwall, to make it bigger and better. And in the next five years, we’re planning to add enough new renewable capacity to supply a town the size of Cambridge.
In order to make the transition to a sustainable, secure, low-carbon economy, the UK needs to generate more from renewable sources. We also need to change the way we consume energy. So we don’t just want our customers to use 100% renewable electricity, we want to help them use energy more efficiently. Through a partnership with the Energy Saving Trust we train our staff to the highest standards to offer advice.
If you want to help transform the energy landscape with a supplier which listens to its customers, join Good Energy and see the difference we can make together.
