Thanks to the choir of the US tv show, Oxted is feeling the Glee effect, as people start singing for the first time and just for fun.
The comedy-musical show charted the story of a group of teenagers in a US high school show choir, or glee club. The show cast worked their way through a series of good-time tunes, along with a large serving of self-deprecating humour.
The Glee in Oxted is being spread by 25 year old Michael
Grant, formerly of Godstone and now living in Whyteleafe, who made a name for himself a decade ago with sax playing appearances on BBC TV’s Blue Peter and Newsround and with local rock bands before heading off to the Royal College of Music for more classical studies.
He is in charge of the Oxted Glee Choir which is for people aged 16 and over who love music and want to sing, not necessarily in public although that may change soon.
At present the choir - all female although men are
welcome - meets every Wednesday night (7.30pm) at S t Peters Church Hall in Limpsfield.
Michael is in charge of the music arrangement - which can
vary from a Dolly Parton standard to a West End show belter - while Fran Reynolds looks after the vocal training.
