Rural areas get more patrols
Rural communities in Tandridge are to benefit from more officers on the beat thanks to a new initiative launched by the Surrey Police Special Constabulary and the Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team.
The team, made up of officers who volunteer their time
to Surrey Police outside their day job or studies will patrol the rural areas of the borough providing extra resources alongside regular Tandridge officers.
Tandridge Neighbourhood Inspector Angie Austin, said: “I am delighted to welcome the new officers from Surrey Police’s Special Constabulary to the Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team who will play a key role in keeping the rural parts of the borough a safe place to live, work and visit.
“A number of officers from the Special Constabulary
already patrol the area along side the Safer Neighbourhood Team but this new initiative will mean they are permanently allocated to the area giving them the title of ‘Rural Special Constables’ and I would like to thank our Country Watch Co-ordinator Lizzie Robinson-Charlton and Special Constabulary Inspector Jon Vale for making this happen.
“The special constables involved will gain specialist
knowledge, skills and an understanding of issues that affect rural communities, which they are so many of in Surrey. This will hopefully build on the success of Tandridge Country Watch and allow us to extend the scheme across the county.”
