Oxted School graduation with retirement announcement
The 2011 Oxted School senior prize giving evening will always be remembered for the moment the chairman of governors, Mrs Margaret McNaughton, announced her retirement. Mrs McNaughton waited until the end of the ceremony to spring her surprise, announcing to a stunned main hall audience that she was ending her 40 plus years association with the school. Mrs McNaughton, MBE, a former chairman of Tandridge District Council, and chairman of the school governors for several years, received a standing ovation from a capacity audience. She will retire at the end the year. The awards were handed out by East Surrey MP Sam Gyimah who was also the event’s guest speaker.He was introduced by the school’s head boy and girl, Jonathan Goldney and Kyam Murray. He was thanked by the deputy head boy and girl, Will Corston and Georgia Edwards.
