FACULTY BIOGRAPHIES MARY SARACINO
Saracino is an award-winning novelist, poet, and memoir writer as well as an independent scholar of the Divine Feminine. Her most recent novel, The Singing of Swans (Pearlsong Press 2006) was a 2007 Lambda Literary Awards Finalist. She is the founder of MOTHEROOT and lives in Lafayette, CO.
ERIN SCHOEPKE
BFA, Ringling School of Art and Design Schoepke has created illustrations for numerous clients, including the Sarasota Ballet, the Saint Petersburg Times and the Utne Reader. Her work has been exhibited from New York to Tokyo.
SHELLEY SCHREIBER Schreiber has exhibited her art at Studio 12 Gallery, Colorado Clay, Sculpture in the Park, and Feats of Clay. Her work can be seen in several books, including The Yixing Effect: Echoes of a Chinese Scholar. Recent exhibitions include O’Sullivan Art Gallery at Regis University and Loveland Sculpture in the Park.
JANEY SKEER MFA, University of Denver Skeer’s art combines clay and steel and explores the interplay and unity of texture, shape, light, shadow, and color. Her work can be found in public and private collections, including those of the Smithsonian Institution, Apple Computer, and Westminster City Hall.
JILL SOUKUP
Soukup has won several awards, most recently the People’s Choice award at the 2011 Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale. Her work has appeared in national publications including The Artist’s Magazine, American Art Collector and Southwest Art. Solo exhibitions include the Longmont Museum and Cultural Center and the University of Northern Colorado. She is represented locally and nationally.
TOM STEVENS
After 36 years of working as a teacher and chief technology officer, Stevens works as a full-time artist in both oil and digital media. He states, “My technical background and artistic experience help students transition smoothly into using the digital tools now available to artists.”
YENNI TAWAHADE MFA, Howard University Tawahade is a sculptor, teacher, and a practitioner and follower of The Artist’s Way. He has taught at CU Boulder, Colorado Institute of Art, Loveland Academy, Colorado Free University, and the Arvada Center.
MARK THOMPSON BFA, Colorado State University
Thompson is one of a handful of artists in the United States who have revived the Renaissance art of egg tempera painting. He is a member of the International Guild of Realism and was recently featured in the traveling exhibit ‘’The New Reality: The Frontier of Realism in the 21st Century.”
MARK FRIDAY MICHELLE TORREZ
Known for her powerful and elegant brush work, Torrez has been featured in national and international collections. Her work has hung in the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria and has appeared in a State Department calendar, as well as in several museum shows and invitationals.
KEN VALASTRO Valastro is an award-winning painter and exhibits in many galleries, including Gallery Dubois in Aspen and Abend Gallery in Denver. He says, “In my paintings, I aspire to evoke a memory of something without overstating it. A painting should offer some surprises.”
ROB WATT Watt’s fiber work has been shown at numerous galleries and art centers, including the Arvada Center, Rule Gallery, and Thirteen Moons Gallery in Santa Fe. His work is featured in several corporate collections and has been exhibited in the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.
JEFF WENZEL MA, MFA, University of California Wenzel worked as a teaching assistant with renowned ceramic sculptor Peter Voulkos and studied drawing and painting with Elmer Bischoff and Joan Brown. He has taught at various arts institutions in the Bay Area. His work is exhibited and collected nationally.
JOSHUA WIENER
Wiener’s ability to convey a concept effectively rests on his strong design and precise execution. He has created numerous public art projects, water features, and land art. The Marble Institute of Colorado was the springboard to his career. Wiener says, “When I teach, I strive to keep students involved in the material.”
JORDAN WOLFSON MFA, Yale University Wolfson has taught painting and drawing for more than 16 years. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and is represented in various public collections. He has also won numerous awards, including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. He is currently represented by DFN Gallery in New York City.
