Explore new ways to glide, wiggle, and dance your brush. Directly observe your immediate world and then practice brushwork, mark making, wordless writing, purposeful calligraphy, and painterly path-making. Watercolor with Ink Resist PEGGY MORGAN-STENMARK Ability: All Levels


Learn to create vibrant watercolor paintings using the ink resist technique. You will be using tempera paint, ink, and watercolor to create pictures that are luminous, colorful, and full of depth. The unique process of ink resist gives paintings the feel of a wood block print while allowing the artist to play with watercolors to create a one-of-a-kind work of art. Figures and Portraits in Watercolor DENNIS PENDLETON Ability: All Levels


Learn to paint nude, clothed, and costumed figures, from preliminary pencil lines to the finishing touches of a completed watercolor. New students will receive instruction in the fundamentals of color mixing for skin tones, as well as methods of creating strong compositions and working with light and shadow. Advanced students will learn to make their work more exciting and compelling using the principles of halftones, brushwork, rich darks, and the relating of the figure and background. Lively critiques are fundamental to this class. Students will receive individual instruction and will be encouraged to find and pursue their own personal styles. Painting the Still Life in Watercolor DENNIS PENDLETON Ability: All Levels


Learn to set up, compose, and paint beautiful and engaging watercolors using still life as a subject. This class will study and draw inspiration from the methods of great artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Henri Matisse, and Charles Reid. Development of each student’s own style will be encouraged through class demonstrations, individual instruction, and group critiques. Exploring the Language of Abstraction KAREN ROEHL Ability: All Levels


Plunge into the world of abstract painting and experience the freedom of inner expression. Whether you want to exaggerate, twist, expand, or obscure the looks of something figurative, or create something moody and altogether unidentifiable, this class will help you work on unleashing your unique voice. While covering fundamental principles of design, materials, and techniques used in acrylic painting, this class will delve into the fun of abstract painting and help students discover the many levels of meaning it can reveal. Egg Tempera MARK THOMPSON Ability: All Levels


Egg tempera painting, recognized as the second oldest art medium, flourished in the hands of early Renaissance artists. During the first several classes, students will gain technical knowledge of paint-mixing and application techniques. Subsequent classes will help students understand the paint’s properties, color, composition, and underpainting methods. Painterly Painting KEN VALASTRO Ability: All Levels Do you paint too tightly? Would you like to create a looser, more “painterly” look in your representational work?
