known as Armistice Day. In 1926, the US Government decided to celebrate the end of World War I on November 11 as World War I ended on the 11th month, on the 11th day, at the 11th hour. In 1938, our Federal Government changed Armistice Day to become a Federal Holiday. In 1954, Armistice Day was once again changed to its present name, Veterans Day, a day for all wars. The walls of the gym had been decorated with hand colored

drawings of those words that make America great: character, patriotism, respect, truth, diversity, unity, and honor. Children joined voices and sang “America the Beautiful,”

“Yankee Doodle,” “America,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.” Upon completion, those children who had a veteran in attendance were given a special acknowledgement.
