“Thumbs down. What is wrong with the people
who run this town? This last storm was a disaster. Like many other people, I didn’t have a place to go and get warm or charge my phone. Not everyone can afford a generator. You don’t seem to worry about the handicap or the less fortunate, only yourselves. It is a disgrace for a town this size not to have a place to go during such a disaster. As leaders, you should be prepared for times like this, after all, we live in the Northeast. This is only the beginning of winter, and we still have a long way to go. I understand elections are held in March, I say it’s time to vote in some new people who are more caring about the people in this town.”
“Thumbs up to everybody who pitched in to help make the Holiday Craft Fair at the Litchfield Community Church a big success! Thanks to all the volunteers, crafters, cooks and shoppers for your generosity and wonderful community spirit. See you next year!”
“Thumbs up to Whip Poor Will Golf Course reopening its doors! We are so happy to have Smiley back serving us.”
“Thumbs down to a larger state deficit. Speaker O’Brien and the republicans assured us that lowering the cigarette tax would generate more revenue. Could they possibly have been wrong?”
“Thumbs up to three very special boys who
live in Hudson named Patrick, Riley and Bradley. After the storm we had many branches down in my yard. They came over without asking and removed all the branches and came back the next day to cut them up and get rid of them. There are still some very nice teenagers in Hudson and I would like to say thank you very much and also to the parents for raising such wonderful boys.”
“Thumbs up. I’d like to publicly thank my wife, Donna, for helping me around the yard last weekend. She did all the leaf blowing and raking, while I am unable to. Luv you, Wayne.”
“Thumbs down to the lack of proof reading in the Hudson~Litchfield News. Last week’s issue had three errors on the front page alone. And the week before, the local cartoon had two errors out of 11 words in it!”
“Thumbs down to the Litchfield Selectman and the town building inspector for demanding a
Thumbs Up? Thumbs Down? “We want to be your Mechanic”
I know he is trying to put a warrant article together to make his position a town manger. The residents of Litchfield need to wake up and see what this guy is all about. Go to the town hall and just ask the people he works with everyday they will tell you. The selectman know they made a mistake hiring him.”
“Thumbs up to everyone
who attended the Litchfield Middle School’s PTO Fall Festival. Our event would not have been a success if it wasn’t for the help of some fabulous PTO members and generous community volunteers. The PTO would also like to give a huge thumbs up and thank you to: McQuesten Farms, Nowack Landscaping Construction, The Litchfield Women’s Club, The two Snyder Families (yum), and Lisa Carty of Professionally Yours Hair Salon. Last but not least, thumbs up to Romano’s, Professor’s and Rocco’s for donating pizzas for our event. Thumbs up and thank you all. This event would not have been a success without you.”
“Thumbs up to all the guys
on Snowdrop Lane and Lilac Court for working together last weekend to clean up all the trees that were damaged in the crazy Halloween weekend snowstorm. Both Snowdrop and Lilac looked like a tornado went through it. Thanks so much for working hard to save those beautiful trees. They look so beautiful in the spring when they bloom! Big thumbs up to the guys!!!”

generator from the fire department to power the gas pump at the incinerator. We spent thousand of dollars to make sure the gas pump at the fire station is safe. Let’s think about this gas and sparks don’t mix. Nice job at putting town employee’s in danger. Is this really what we have running this town.”
“Thumbs down to the Litchfield Town Administrator and Building Inspector. Why would you go and spend money to put a 95% efficient heating system in the fire station when the building is only 5% efficient. Nice way to waste tax payer’s money. Also love how you moved the propane tank and buried it on the side of a drainage ditch so when we have heavy rain it can floats down steam. Can you tell why it is ok for town officials to break codes but not ok for others.”
“Thumbs down to the Litchfield Town Administrator for wasting tax payer’s money. Has anyone look to see what is record is in the past.

contractors who came to help restore our power during the massive outage last week. Most of us truly appreciate the fact that you worked long hard hours and were away from your families during that time. For those of you who have been complaining... aren’t you grateful that your homes were not ripped to pieces by a tornado or washed down the street in a flood? And you do realize what kind of work it entails restoring the power when so much damage has been done to the lines? You do know that they are people, not robots, correct? You do realize that they do not just ‘flick a switch’ to restore our power, don’t you? Stop your complaining and find something productive to do in this community! Thank you again to all the service workers who helped bring back the luxuries we have come to

“Thumbs down to the lady on 3A at the Hudson-Litchfield border. Only you would put up a giant ‘cord wood for sale’ sign next to a huge pile of wood and then not sell it to anyone. You must really enjoy disappointing people and saying ‘No’ to them. It’s one of the strangest hobbies I’ve ever come across.”
“Thumbs up to Officer Al Marcotte of the Hudson PD. Your act of bravery in an attempt to rescue a fellow citizen was exemplary. You are a credit to the Town of Hudson, the Hudson PD, and an example of the hard work performed by our Hudson police officers on a daily basis.”
“Thumbs down to the Litchfield school board’s choice of principal for Campbell.”
“Thumbs down to those who are so incapable that the power outage from a freak weather event causes them to unravel. As The Complete Life’s Little Instruction Book says ‘Don’t confuse mere inconveniences with real problems’. I’m sure there were real emergencies, but I bet most of the complaining is from people who missed ‘Dancing with the Stars’.”
“Thumbs down to the thumbs down comment that ended with ‘I am going to say you are a stay at home mom. We know how hard you work.’ I agreed with your comment until this point. I

personally wish the paper would shut down this section. It is a forum for adults to behave badly and snipe at each other. The back and forth between the working moms and stay-at-home moms is childish on both sides. If you have good parenting skills, it shouldn’t matter which type of mom you are. I was fortunate to stay home with my children and believe it made it difference, but if I needed to have a job outside the home, I believe I could have made that scenario work also.”
out of money” - Officials at the Congressional Budget Office
“Thumbs down. Through the years, this part of the paper has become more hurtful to people and businesses. The comments don’t have to be factual and no one needs to sign his or her name, but the words get released anyway for all to read. It is not helping our community. If you have a problem with your neighbor, visit them. If you have a complaint about a department within the town, call them. It would save the rest of us from reading all the foolishness and any outsider who picks up the paper from thinking that idiots live here.”
“Thumbs down to the town of Hudson for not
waiting for everyone to get power back before starting school again. My family had to come home to a freezing, powerless, waterless house, so that my children would not miss school, as they cherish their perfect attendance!”

“Thumbs down to the comments about the 5u coach other than a 2 knuckle heads always complaining most of us parents were very pleased with the coaching staff. So dont listen to those 2, They complain about everything they coached my son in baseball and did nothing but complain, I heard their sons played basketball together last season and they did nothing but complain so take it for what its worth they complain about everything.”
“Thumbs up to all the hard-
working PSNH workers and all the Litchfield residents that took the power outage in stride! I was so proud to hear that there are other people who feel as I do. Many of us are true-blooded Yankees who pride ourselves in self- sufficiency. In hard times, we grit our teeth, roll with the punches and help out our neighbors. When you look at the big picture, a week without power seems silly to be griping about when comparing it to tornadoes, floods, mudslides and tsunamis. When PSNH arrived on my block, I would have baked them a cake - I just haven’t figured out how to on my propane grill yet!”
“Thumbs down. How dare
you criticize any family that is financially able to support one parent staying home with their kids? What is it so much better to ship them off to day care? I think not. Raising kids is hard enough without parent fighting each other
over jealousy. It’s too bad you made choices you regret. Some of us made choices that now enable one parent to stay home. I honestly pray that all families get the support they need from friends and family to help these kids in very difficult times. People like you and your jealousy really should just keep your mouths shut!”
“Thumbs down to the irresponsible Hudson Hunter who mistook my chocolate lab as a deer and shot him on November 4, then trying to flee the scene when confronted by my husband in orange who was out walking with him. Luckily, he is going to survive but not before spending close to $1200 in vet bills. Hoping you have your license taken away indefinitely, before your next shot is at a human.”
“Thumbs up to all that volunteered their time for our successful concession stand. We had a great chef at the grill, great counter help, great girls running the 50/50, great bakers and luckily a generator to borrow. Even though we ran out of propane, everyone was very patient and understanding. Thanks again everyone for all of your hard work!”
“Thumbs up to all the girls that ran the 50/50
raffle. And to the very generous winner of the 50/50 raffle, who in turn donated her half, along with our half to the Litchfield Food Pantry, totaling $94. Great job!!!”
“Thumbs up to the Musquash Lion! After spending most of the summer stuck between two trees, and then hanging precariously by your tail for weeks, it looks like you are finally having some fun. Frolicking in the autumn leaves is such great fun – enjoy it while you can.”
“Thumbs up, way up, to Dan for helping me out at 3:30 in the morning while I was stuck in Litchfield during the freak October storm. Without your help I would have been there all night. Couldn’t find a better, honestly NICE guy! Dan, you went waaay beyond the call of duty, and far beyond what most others would do. I won’t forget your kindness, and I’ll “pay it forward”. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
“Thumbs down. When you couldn’t sell your residential house to a trucking company you turned it into rental property. You have subjected our neighborhood to screaming teen-agers fighting in the street, wife beaters, drinking parties, barking dogs, and now a professional drummer!
If you
set out to ruin our quality of life, congratulations, you’ve succeeded.”
“Thumbs down: The Shepherd’s Hill Condo
development does not recycle their trash. Why? I just moved here in the summer and can’t believe all of the potential recycling waste that is thrown in the trash. The Town of Hudson stands to gain from this and it is better for the environment if we can recycle. Lets get some recycling containers here and I’m sure you will have many people from our development putting their recyclables in them.”
