Skelton Councillor under investigation
on a pro tem basis.
Councillor Dave McLuckie resigned as chair of the Cleveland Police Authority in May shortly after being re-elected for Skelton ward.
Councillor Dave McLuckie former chair of Cleveland Police Authority
W
e understand that Skelton Councillor and Redcar and Cleveland Cabinet member Dave McLuckie was arrested on the morning of Tuesday 8th November and was held overnight for questioning in a North Yorkshire police station. He was released on bail, until April, the following evening. During Operation Sacristy several addresses across Redcar and Cleveland were searched, we believe that addresses in Skelton, Eston and Loftus areas. The Labour Party has put Mr McLuckie back under administrative suspension and he has had the whip withdrawn. Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Councillor George Dunning has taken over responsibility for the Environment portfolio
The investigation into the Police Authority was made public in May; the Labour party then suspended and withdrew the whip from Councillor McLuckie later that month. This meant that there was no place in the new Redcar and Cleveland cabinet for him. When the new cabinet was announced Councillor Steve Goldswain took responsibility for the community Safety portfolio a role that Councillor McLuckie held until the local elections in May this year. In August councillor McLuckie had his suspension from the Labour Party removed because of a lack of clarity over the timescale of the investigation into the police authority.
He was then re-appointed to an unknown cabinet position, and we believe that this may have caused the resignation of cabinet member for Environment, Joe Keenan. Councillor McLuckie was then appointed to the Environment Portfolio that Councillor Keenan left.
Everyone arrested in Operation Sacristy, including Councillor McLuckie, have maintained their innocence throughout the investigation.

Then in 2007, his article, Our Heroes about his grandfather’s heroics on the Somme, appeared in a book, Times Past: The Story of York, written by former York Press Deputy Editor, Bill Hearld. In 2008, he was asked by Redcar & Cleveland Council’s ‘Business Enterprise Team’ to write press releases about local business start ups. With a new passion for being entrepreneurial, in 2009, he launched his own newspaper, Coastal View to give local businesses their own medium, which he says, is proud to see has gone from strength to strength. “I am proud to say, Lynne and Steve Nicholls are now doing a brilliant job with it and it’s nice to still be in touch too. “My book will be published by Middlesbrough based and family run, Quoin publishing who help fledgling authors get their books into print. The title reflects how my life which has been one of constant circles, but I really knew I’d come full circle when I sat in York Crown court one day reporting on a case for the York Press where I was a defendant over 20 years before.
“The book, has three main objectives. Firstly, because ordinary people can relate to ordinary people’s lives, I am hoping it will go some way towards helping others who may also suffer from mental health issues as I did. “Secondly, I am also hoping I can show young people how much crime can ruin
their lives, by showing them the lifetime of struggles and torment I have had to endure as a result of my thoughtless actions which started when I was a youth. “Thirdly, it is aimed at students and practitioners of criminology and other disciplines, to use as a textbook to further their understanding of a person’s criminal and anti-social behaviour.”
Apart from the book writing, David is now a columnist for the Probation Trust and the National UNLOCK organisation as well as contributing to the Prison Education Trust. He also tours the country giving talks to University students, the most recent being Northumbria, Nottingham Trent and Teesside.
