Delivering natural beauty W
ith a little help from her friends and a lot of help from her family, local
woman Rebecca Walker of Boosbeck has finally opened the doors on her new business. Rebecca, 18 is now the proud proprietor of The Countryside Florist, situated on the High Street in Skelton. Rebecca told Coastal View: “It’s unbelievable because the whole thing was set up in two weeks from start to finish. I’m so proud and very grateful to all those who made it possible.” Former Errington Primary and Laurence Jackson pupil, Rebecca, gained her florist qualification at Askham Bryan and trained in two of the area’s florist shops before deciding to go it alone.
“I want to create a really good atmosphere in the shop and we will do all we can to help our customers make their choices and not feel rushed in doing so.
“We aim to make the shop cosy and inviting, offer customers a seat and even make them a tea or coffee, while they wait for their order” said Rebecca. You can browse through books of photographs, showing work Rebecca has already done to help with ideas. The Countryside Florist will sell mainly flowers, either as a pot arrangement, selling from as little as £6.50 up to bouquets made to whatever size you wish, as well as ornaments, trinkets and small gifts, all at affordable prices. Christmas items and handmade wreaths are also on sale. A regular flower arrangement service is also available to local cafes, hotels and restaurants. Once you have purchased your vases and your initial arrangements they can then be topped up in the future, either on site or collected and prepared in the shop before being returned. A same day delivery service is available, to both local areas and as far afield as Stockton, so long as you order before 3.30pm. Rebecca’s mum Linda, who will be helping in the shop, told us: “Everybody has been so helpful and encouraging. The local shop owners have been wishing us ‘Good Luck.’ Both Rebecca and Linda said they would like to especially thank family friend, Charles King and Errington Primary School for their invaluable advice and help.
Rebecca said: “I know I’ve picked the right thing to do, because while I was away on a two week holiday, I just couldn’t wait to go home and get back to it. I love my work so much and take great pride in it”
