HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGIATE INTENSIVES
High School Composition Intensive: July 22–August 4, 2012
The Boston Conservatory’s High School Composition Intensive (HSCI) is a two-week program designed to challenge and engage students who are serious about music composition. Young composers will engage in a rigorous daily practice of composition through faculty-led assignments and individual guidance. All participants will be given instruction in contemporary music, ear training and theory, and will attend a daily composers’ forum. Finally, each student composer will write four new works to be performed and recorded during the two-week program. QX (WWW.QXSTRINGQUARTET. ORG) will be in residence for the second week of the program for daily rehearsals and workshopping of the students ‘ newly composed string quartets.
By the end of this two week intensive, students will gain a more advanced understanding of music theory, an improved fluency in notating their compositions and greater confidence in their skill and creativity as composers. Participants will also have a new catalogue of recorded works, which may be used for future collegiate applications.
