It all adds up to what we believe is the biggest week-end of traditional music held in Edinburgh, and one of the biggest fiddle festivals in Europe.

After all that music, if you like to hear people talking, you can learn about the fiddle music of John Clare and Thomas Hardy, fiddle maintenance, tips for young musicians on how to get established in the music industry, the physics of fiddle playing, the future of traditional music, Norwegian fiddle music, and participate in a discussion on the festival itself.

Some of the people taking part this year include:-

Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas (cello), American-based old friends of the festival whose virtuoso playing will energise the whole Hall, but who are equally at home working with and inspiring groups of youngsters, giving them a musical experience they’ll never forget.

Duncan Chisholm, is perhaps most famous as a member of folk-rock band Wolfstone and the acclaimed Julie Fowlis Band, and a wonderful player in

Englishman, Pete Cooper, appearing at his first fiddle festival here, is well-known as a player and a renowned teacher of various styles of music, including Irish, American, and Eastern European. This time, he is presenting a workshop and a talk focusing on aspects of English fiddle music.
