■ THE Optoelectronic Manufacturing Corporation (UK) Ltd (OMC) offers ultra-low- energy long-life semi-conductor lighting products which can replace almost any traditional lighting.
The company has introduced a range of retrofit LED replacements for T8 fluorescent tubes which offer enhanced efficiency and longevity. Two main styles of replacement tubes are supplied - a low-voltage 24V input tube and a tube with an integrated mains driver allowing the light to be
powered directly by 240V. In many cases, the conversion is straightforward - you simply remove the fluorescent light starter and swap the tube for an LED version.
These LED replacement tubes
provide around the same level of light as the fluorescent tubes while saving between 50 to 65 per cent on electricity usage. The tubes have an average life
expectancy of more than five years on-time. They do not require a warm-up period and are unharmed by being switched on and off - making them suitable for use with occupancy sensors. Another advantage is the LED tubes are solid-state devices which contain no hazardous gases. In addition, when they eventually do require replacement it is possible to repair and recycle the tubes.
