August-September 2011 South West Building & Construction 9 EXETER TYRE RECOVERY

Free of charge tyre bales

Article from Exeter Tyre Recovery

EXETER Tyre Recovery, working in association with Avery Tyre Recycling, manufactures British Standard PAS 108 waste tyre bales for use in a large variety of civil engineering projects throughout the UK.

Joe Bussell, contracts manager for the partnership, is encouraging civil engineers to research the advantages of this product as, particularly in the South West, very little use has been made of tyre bales. He says: ‘As well as greatly assisting the disposal of approximately 45 million waste tyres generated in the UK each year, tyre bales reduce the need for virgin natural stone aggregates - decreasing the impact on the natural environment and the carbon footprint associated with transportation of the heavy rock and stone products. ‘The EA (Environment

Agency) and WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) fully support the use of tyre bales under their formal guidance and detailed information is available under a number related websites.’ Suggested applications for tyre bales include:

*Road Sub Base *Retaining Walls *Gabions

*Flood Control *Landfill Infrastructure Works

The recycled tyre bales can be used in a wide variety of projects.

*River Bank and Railway Bank Erosion

*Other Land Slide and Embankment Problems *Woodland Access Road Drainage

|*Horse Gallop Drainage *Firing Range & Bunker Drainage

*Golf Course Drainage *Motorway & Railway Sound

Joe says: ‘Amazingly this product is absolutely free of charge and the only cost to a project is the transportation charge from our operating base on the Hill Barton Business Park on the outskirts of Exeter.’ Further information regarding tyre bales may be obtained from Joe on 07590 471 234.
