14 South West Building & Construction
August-September 2011 FOCUS ON NORTH DEVON
Kitchens and bathrooms
TAMAR Trading, an independent Builders’, Plumbers’ and Timber Merchant supplying trade and retail customers throughout North and West Devon and North and East Cornwall, wishes to thank all the businesses which supported its special feature in the previous issue of South West Building & Construction magazine.
The feature explained how the
company is investing for the future and has embarked upon major improvements to its original Holsworthy branch (tel 01409 253555).
The article also told how
Tamar Trading’s Torrington branch (tel 01805 626333) recently benefited from a thorough upgrade of the kitchen and bathroom showroom. Amongst Tamar Trading’s strengths are its comprehensive stockholdings and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Heavy and lightside products stocked range from bricks and
blocks, timber and sheet materials through to plumbing goods and sanitaryware, paint and ironmongery. Tamar Trading is a member of the National Buying Group (NBG) which, with more than 70 merchant members nationwide, has a combined turnover of over £800m. It is the buying power generated by the NBG which serves to drive down costs, and ensures Tamar Trading customers are able to purchase at competitive prices. Tamar Trading has also moved into Bideford, opening a Bathroom and Kitchen Showroom and Studio at Supreme House (see advert for contact details), displaying an extensive range of traditional and contemporary bathroom fittings and accessories and providing a design service for new kitchens and bathrooms. A full site measurement service is available free of charge for larger installations
Part of the scheme at Bideford College.
Award for college project
Tamar Trading has a showroom in Bideford.
MEMBERS of the design team from NPS Group’s Exeter office have won the prestigious 2011 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) South West award for their design of the £45m Bideford College. The coveted RIBA awards are the Oscars of the architectural world and this year’s regional award ceremony was held at the Guildhall in Salisbury. Competition was extremely tough and NPS Group was up against the region’s foremost architectural practices. The college project will now automatically go forward to the national RIBA awards to be held in London in the autumn. The college, which was opened for students in September 2010, has already scooped
several awards for design, sustainability and partnership working reflecting NPS Group’s collaboration with their client, Devon County Council, the college, main contractor Morgan Sindall and the many other organisations involved in the project.
NPS Group provided full design services for the college which caters for students aged 11 to 18 and includes a six badminton court sports hall, theatre/cinema, dance studio, drama studio and music rooms. The college was designed to maximise its flexibility in use throughout its lifespan from the way in which teaching spaces of varying sizes can be combined for different purposes to the potential for community use.
