Sustainable building GREEN BUILD CORNWALL

A TWO-DAY exhibition on sustainable building has been hosted by the Eden Project in Cornwall.

Green Build Cornwall was

organised by the Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust with funding support from ESF (European Social Fund) Convergence. The exhibition showcased

green building options and the renewable energy sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly as well as training and career development opportunities throughout the country. Visitors entered through a

renewable energy zone where they could find out about solar hot water, solar electricity, biomass boilers, wind power systems and heat pump options. There was also information about Feed-in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive. The event highlighted local construction suppliers that have

adapted or developed their operations for the green building market, and there was a timber studio ark made by Pioneer Cabins on display. Mark Williams of the Skills Funding Agency said: ‘We are delighted to invest in the development of sustainable construction skills in Cornwall. Strengthening the technical skills of the industry will contribute to the overall quality and success of the renewable energy and green built sectors as they continue to grow in importance and relevance to the Cornish economy.’ Eden’s sustainability manager

Caron Thompson said: ‘The interest in building sustainably is increasing rapidly and Cornwall is well-placed to be a leader in this field.’

As well as displays, there were also seminars for those in the construction industry with the range of topics including low

impact building and recycled building materials, living roofs, waste minimisation and retrofitting.
