PWN by Chris White In only its second season competing at the

varsity level, the Windham High football team is headed to the Division 5 championship game. The third-seeded Jaguars advanced to the finals with a 33-27 win over second-seeded Kearsarge in a semifinal contest at Hanover High School last Saturday afternoon. The game was hard-fought and came down to the final seconds. Windham led 27-20 after three quarters, but a Kearsarge touchdown with 7:35 left in the fourth knotted the score, 27-27. The Jaguars owned possession in the final minute, though, and they capitalized on it. Windham quarterback Joe Lorenz found teammate Scott Priestley, Jr., for a 23-yard touchdown pass, giving the Jaguars a six-point lead with 24 seconds to go and eventually becoming the game-winning score. Windham receivers Danny Cannone and Artem Aristov each caught a touchdown pass from

Lorenz earlier, while running backs Kennie Padin and Kevin Cooney rushed for one touchdown apiece. Kicker Ben Shipman also connected on three of five extra point attempts to add to Windham’s scoring total. Cooney led the Jaguars on the ground for the

day, as he accumulated 208 rushing yards on 21 carries, while Lorenz turned in a solid throwing performance, connecting on 9 of 12 pass attempts for 152 yards. Windham’s leading receivers for the afternoon were Priestley (four receptions, 41 yards) and Cannone (two receptions, 79 yards). Windham will play top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas for the Division 5 championship this weekend. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 12 and will be played on St. Thomas’ home field in Dover.

Windham Soccer Earns Playoff Victory

by Chris White The Windham boys’ soccer team earned its first ever playoff victory against St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday, October 28. The 11th- seeded Jaguars shut out the sixth-seeded Saints, 1-0, in a first-round contest played at the Seacoast United Outdoor Soccer Complex in Epping.

Chris Ulbrich notched Windham’s lone goal off an assist from Anthony Capozzi 25 minutes into the game. Meanwhile, Windham’s defense was led by a 12-save effort from Andrew Pesci, who was sidelined by an injury six games into the regular season but made his return in the playoff contest. From there, the Jaguars had to wait five

days to play in the Division 2 quarterfinals against third-seeded Hollis-Brookline. The quarterfinal match was postponed a number of times because of the Saturday, October 29, snowstorm and the power outage that followed. The Jags eventually played Hollis-Brookline

on Wednesday, November 2, at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter, where they lost 2-0. Windham held Hollis-Brookline scoreless through 72 minutes, but the Cavs capitalized on two scoring opportunities in the final eight minutes to advance to the semifinals. With the loss, Windham ended the season

Chris Ulbrich provided Windham’s lone goal in a 1-0 win over St. Tomas in the first round

with an overall record of 10-8. The Jags took another step in the right direction this season as they improved on a 6-9-2 record and a first-round playoff exit from a year ago.

submitted by Ben Pease Team Germany of Windham ‘s U12 league completed an undefeated season. The team of fifth and sixth graders, who have never played together as a unit until this year, has amassed 41 goals versus 22 goals against, and has not lost a game to date. First-time Windham coaches Ben Pease and Ron

Tringale are proud of the kids and have focused heavily on more advanced strategies, such as wing-play, triangle passing, and lead crossing. A couple players have had exceptional seasons, one

being Michael Scopa who has scored roughly half the teams goals ... as well as defensive rock Emily Martsolf in center fullback. However, the team has become a cohesive unit, all contributing to the success every week and improving day by day. In celebration of an extremely successful season, the CEO of The Workout Club & Wellness Center donated his facility’s amenities for a season-end party after the final game. Kids enjoyed swimming, pizza, and rock climbing ... and hopefully the sweet taste of an undefeated season and the joy of many new friendships.

Wolverines Football Heads to State Championship 6th Grade: Joe Dunlap had several long runs and a TD

submitted by Jon MacLean, PR/ Marketing Coordinator, Windham Wolverines Youth Football and Cheer The Windham Youth Football and Cheer program is on its way to Derry this Sunday for the Division II State Championship. The Wolverines’ fourth and fifth grade combined team and the sixth grade team both had victories in the semi-finals this past weekend and each earned themselves a shot at a

state title. “This is a terrific accomplishment for the kids in our program,” said President Jim Williams after last Sunday’s big wins over their opponents. “I am really proud of how hard our teams have worked to make it to the finals.” The teams’ right to play this coming Sunday is even more impressive when you take into consideration that the Wolverines are a first-year program.

“Our players can be proud of themselves,” said Kyle McInnis, sixth grade coach and VP of Football Operations for the Wolverines. “It’s now on to the state championship game. I hope we’ll see a lot of Windham families, friends and fans there this Sunday. We’d like to have a large contingent of people to cheer on both of our teams.” Windham’s fourth and fifth grade combined team take on the Laconia Chiefs for the Division II State Championship at Don Ball Field in Derry a 9 a.m. The sixth grade Wolverines’ team plays the Monadnock Mountaineers there at 11 a.m. The fourth and fifth grade Windham team had their hands full with a much-improved Concord Capitols fifth grade team in their semi-final battle. Concord would strike first with a TD run up the middle at the 4:27 mark in the first quarter. The Wolverines, however, would fire back with a sustained drive of their own.
