“Thumbs down! Please stop bashing Stephen Campbell!! You have no idea what you’re talking about! Do you know him personally? I read where you said he has seniors following and liking him. Yes, we (seniors) do! I for one, wrote a letter a few years ago ‘we need more like Stephen Campbell,’ and I meant it. Don’t bash someone you don’t know personally. He’s a fine man and keeps your taxes low. He fights for you and everyone in this town. We have his back and we always will. He also is the smartest bulb on the town tree or haven’t you noticed? Like I said before, in all my letters, he comes to the meetings very well prepared and if you ‘listen’, you will know how he has all the facts and numbers. He is an asset and I’ll still go out and campaign for him always. You’re jealousy is an open book – we know who you are. Stop the nonsense and get a life!!!”
“Thumbs down to Stephen Campbell. I have sat
back and watched some of the meetings and have just shook my head on some of the things that you have had to say. You drag out the meetings with your comments that have no substance and serve no real purpose or resolve any issues. Tonight is a prime example. If I were the company looking to lease land from the town for the tower I would have walked away and said I’d find a private piece of land for my project. ‘Thumbs up’ to Ms Covey for calling out Mr. Campbell for his violation of RSA 91a and I can only hope the Chair follows and sanctions Mr. Campbell. And can you believe that he then tried to say he did nothing? Those of us who saw the meeting know exactly what he did. Once again he was frustrated with a matter discussed in private session and let out a leak so citizens would begin to discuss it. Salem residents should be outraged and demand for his removal, this is not the way to do business!”
“Thumbs up to the Barron School for hosting
such a great fall festival. It was refreshing to have something new on the venue this year and it was very well done. My kids had a great time, as did many others we were with. Great job!”
“Thumbs up to Rep. D.J. Bettencourt. He’s the NH House Majority Leader, a full time law student, supports himself financially as a legal consultant, AND still finds time to enjoy life. I find that impressive. No wonder D.J. annoys the unions and Democrats; he works hard and is happy. Sounds to me like the individual who attacked him is jealous.”
“Thumbs up to Salem State Representative

and House Majority Leader D.J. Bettencourt for his leadership on a constitutional amendment prohibiting an income tax in New Hampshire. It will be comforting to always know that the socialist liberals will not be able to get their sticky fingers on my hard earned income.”
“Thumbs down to former State Representative Tony Difruscia who showed his true colors by endorsing liberal Democrat Gubernatorial
candidate Maggie Hassan, cheering gay marriage, and receiving a cease and desist order from the NH Attorney General for six violations of election laws for activities from the 2010 election. Thanks for reminding us why we threw you out of office.”
“Thumbs up to the North Salem Elementary School. The best school in Salem!”
“Thumbs down to the nasty attack on Majority Leader DJ Bettencourt (Salem). How he spends his free time in his personal life is none of anyone’s business. The Salem Patriot should be ashamed to have printed such a disgusting anonymous attack. These kinds of attacks are what ruin politics and drive good people away from elected office.”
“Thumbs down to the cowardly personal smear on State Representative D.J. Bettencourt. I’m a registered Democrat but attacking his personal life and how he makes a living is way out of bounds and really juvenile. What a sad new low for proper political discourse.”
“Thumbs up to Chris Dillon, Jeanine Bannon and all the volunteers who helped run the Town’s Halloween Party. They did a fabulous job! So many children were able to play games, collect candy and show off their costumes. By the look on their smiling faces, they all had a great time. I am grateful the Board chose to keep Salem’s Recreation Department! The Recreation Department is a huge asset to our town.”
“Thumbs down; way down to the authors who
are praising the Salem police dept and chastising their critics. Have you not been reading the posts over the last few months? The vast majority of people are disgusted with the police. Their rude behavior; their unwillingness to help citizens or investigate crimes; the large number of the force which far exceeds what is needed especially if the officers out on ‘disability’ would return and do their job. And especially to the head honcho Chief Donovan and many of us are still asking for your resignation.”
“Thumbs up to DJ Bettencourt, the House Majority Leader. He must be doing an outstanding job at the State House if the only thing the Democrats can attack him on is where he likes to go out to eat. First, the liberal gadflies were obsessed about where he lived and now they are worried where he goes on vacation. The Democrats and their public sector union buddies need to get a life!”
“Thumbs up to Rep. D.J. Bettencourt. We support him because he fights for Salem at the State House and does what he believes is right. He is conservative and not afraid to tell the truth and speak his mind. Like him or not you always know where he stands.”
“Thumbs down to those people who feel the need to give Salem School District a thumbs down. My advice is get involved as much as you can. Make a difference.. volunteer... or spend the money to educate your child(ren) elsewhere.”
“Thumbs up to Senator Chuck Morse and Representative DJ Bettencourt for their commitment and efforts to finally complete the I-93 widening. For those of us who hate sitting in traffic we say ‘thank you’.”
“Thumbs down to Salem Democrat Party Chairman Larry Disenhof for his constant distortions in the newspapers. It’s sad that Larry, Jane Lang, Laurel Redden, and Dawn Mastrogiacomo would rather engage in personal attacks and misinformation than talk about the issues.”
“Thumbs down. It was nice to see that the Chairman of the BOS find it necessary to bend over backwards for Selectman Covey so she could attend the Salem Boys and Girls Club Dinner. What’s with these people. Mr. Lyons always whines about having some where to go or something to do and wants the meeting over, now Sue Covey wants meeting times and days changed so she can meet her schedule. Sorry folks, please don’t run again.”
“Thumbs down to the person who gave the Barron School harvest fest a thumbs down. It was a fun time for the children and their parents and everything was great just the way it was. As for the chili contest, I was one of the judges and I can tell you with certainty that the judging that you anonymously bashed was completely legitimate. We made sure we did not know whose chili was whose, we did not talk about how we liked each chili and we did not compare scores about the chili until after the score sheets were taken away and the votes tallied. I can assure you there was no ‘rigging’ of the contest.”
“Thumbs down to the person complaining about the Barron Harvest Fest. I was in the Chili contest and read the scores the winner did win far. As for no liking the way the games were made or the cost of the food I challenge you. Take on the Holiday Breakfast you have 1 month with a low budget to make an over the top event for the kids and find volunteer to help you! Don’t complain unless your willing to take on an event or help.”
“Thumbs up to the stores at the mall that did participate in Trick-or-Treating on Halloween! During a very difficult time, these stores put a smile on the faces of many children. Thank you!”
“Thumbs down to these cottages on Arlington Pond that are being occupied. Thumbs down to the town for not being consistent. I got a $2,000 fine and I also had to get a septic
system with all these other people who are living there, single, with no kids, making the place look like an eye sore. So, thumbs down to the town officials that are in charge for not being consistent to the people who are in seasonal cottages. It’s not right and it’s not fair. If you’re going to do it to one, do it to them all!”
“Thumbs down. Police, your badge isn’t big enough to hide behind so stop committing all these errors and people won’t call you out. Just by reading the text of a message you can tell if it’s you or your family.
Just do your job and
keep your head low. You don’t see the Fire Department getting in these kind of jams, do you? In taking shots at the board of Selectmen, realize one thing… except for Mr. Hargreaves and Mr. Campbell, these people all have secondary agendas. Look at what their trades are. Steven and Pat are town boys and they know what’s happening.”
“Thumbs down. If you’re a Senior Citizen,
you can’t get a job in town. They ask you stupid questions like, ‘can you lift 75 lbs?’. Well, I constantly work out as an old man. I said, ‘yes, I can lift 100 lbs. fifty times, how’s that?’. That was the end of the interview. Or, they will hire you so they can get rid of you and say that they tried to hire a senior but it didn’t work out. If you’re a senior citizen, they legally can’t ask you your age, or when you were born, or if you’re black, white or anything else. Stick to your rights. Sooner or later we will break through to some of these tough clowns.”
“Thumbs down to the Salem High lunch staff.
They never get the money right and they’ll tell you the next day that they need more money because they charge you so much.”
“Thumbs down to all the stupid stuff that’s on in the morning. The only thing that I can watch in the morning is the Looney Tunes show. I feel really bad for all those high schoolers out there who have to listen to the radio in the morning.”
“Thumbs down to the house that always lets their dog walk around with no leash. I’m always finding dog poop in my yard and it’s starting to get really annoying. I don’t want to pick up other people’s dog poop. I have my own dog and I have to clean up his poop, so keep a leash on your dog!”
